For one, the fact that some women are OF models and that the song WAP exists doesn’t mean all women want to be sexualised all the time. WAP is a fun song but I don’t want people using that as a reason to sexualise me when I’m on the bus.

I think, while I understand it can feel confusing, think of it like pizza: maybe you want pizza one night for dinner, but that doesn’t mean you want it all the time forever. It’s just in this situation you wanted pizza.

The male gaze primarily talks about things like constant objectification, reducing women to their sexuality entirely (even when they didn’t ask for it), but also being possessive enough to take ownership over a woman’s sexuality.

It is that women own their sexuality and set the terms for accessing it, including obvious objectification in the public square, approaching, and so forth. If you don’t find those things empowering, don’t do them. Don’t engage with that content. But don’t look down on women who have monetized their sexuality. Men want to exploit women to use for free all of the time. But all of a sudden it’s wrong if I charge for my time?

The reason it’s empowering is because historically women were made to feel dirty or shameful for having any sexual thoughts or behaviors. Reclaiming their sexuality is empowering.

Closing the orgasm gap in hetero relationships is important, not degrading women for how much or how little they wear is important, not shaming women for how many or how few sexual partners they’ve had, is important. The point of empowerment is your ability to choose for yourself what you are happiest with and not disrespecting those who have differing opinions for their own lives.

It’s okay if you want to not have sex be a part of your life outside of marriage or a committed relationship. But that doesn’t mean that women who monetize their sexuality are less deserving of respect.

You can hear a song that gets you going in the bedroom and not believe it applies to all women. (Hello genuines pony? That’s from our time…) I can have a job as a sex worker and not have that diminish who I am as a human being. That’s the empowering part. Not that you have to do these things or that if you don’t you’re not worthy of respect.

You aren’t a pick me for not wanting to engage in your sexuality outside of your boundaries. You’re a pick me for believing that this gives men the right to continue to dehumanize women.

It’s all about consent. When I’m on OF, I consent to being viewed in that way. When I’m in the gym or grocery store, I don’t. When I choose to have sex with someone, I’ve consented to that sexual interaction. When I’m drunk at a party and fall asleep on the couch, I have not consented to being touched, even if you’ve seen my OF.
