I'm a trader by background but I'm on loan to our wealth management division so I can gain experience dealing with high wealth clients. I live in Manhattan and work on the street.

Before this, I was an Officer of Marines and before that, a Marine Rifleman. Married young to another Marine Officer who developed a severe drinking problem on account of PTSD that she wasn't willing to get help for, then divorced right before I left the Corps to start my MBA.

By some people's definition, I've been successful. But really only in terms of getting laid. My definition of success is getting married and having children with the type of woman I'd be able to settle down with. So not as much luck.

A man being in a female-dominated profession leads to his lacking sexual fulfillment because of the relatively low income of those professions. At least, that has been my experience. This comment may be a bad case of TL/DR, but I feel very strongly about the issue and don’t have many chances to discuss it.

I’m a male with a master’s in social work. I work with families of patients with brain and spinal cord injuries. I’m immensely proud of my work. I’ve provided guidance and emotional comfort to thousands of people going through unimaginable tragedy. I’ve saved many people from homelessness and a few from suicide.

I work out regularly, am in great shape and feel like I must have good social skills to be able to do my job. I’m not rich, of course, but am totally able to cover the cost of taking a woman out for a nice dinner or buying her ticket to a play or concert. Despite all that, I haven’t gotten past the first date in a very long time.

A few years ago, I had a first date that went incredibly well. There were no awkward lulls in the conversation. At the end of the evening, she grabbed me and gave me a long, impassioned good night kiss. When she turned me down for a second date, I said I really needed some help, told her of my unsuccessful dating history and asked if she could give me any advice. I still remember her exact words: “I’ve been very successful in my career. I’m not going to risk compromising my lifestyle by getting involved with a man who’s content being a social worker and driving an old subcompact.” Her advice was not to tell dates that I was a social worker. She said I should, instead, describe the case management side of what I do in a way that would make it sound like I was in administration-type management. She also said I should take out a car loan and replace my paid-off, well-maintained, perfectly-running subcompact with a used Corvette.

I wrote her off as a very shallow person and discounted her advice. A few years later, though, when I was on vacation, there was a mix-up at the car rental company. Instead of my usual economy car, I got a red, convertible sports car. Over the course of a week, four women cold-approached me with lines like: “hot car” and “niiiice ride,” an experience I’d never had before.

So, my advice to any idealistic young men reading this post and considering social work, nursing, teaching, etc., as a career is to think long and hard about it. Are you so committed to your values that you’re willing to endure a lifetime of celibacy? If not, go into law, engineering, computer science or another high-income field. If you’re in your 20’s, you’re probably not having any problems finding sexual fulfillment now. At that age, I didn’t. When you hit your 30’s though, you’ll lose the hot body women find attractive. Also, more and more of the men you’re competing against will have achieved so much more than you financially that women won’t see you as datable.

Came from the military and since then worked in mostly female orientated workplaces. Female orientated workplaces are extremely toxic.

Women seem to hate each other and quickly gang up on each other. The cliques are horrendous and cause extensive and organised bullying.

Edit: For all those saying a male dominated profession has nothing to do with it. You are right but so many men here think grown adult women think like teenagers/college aged women who are after chad which tells me they don't really know how mature women behave.

If I treated women the way they treat each other in female dominated workplaces, I'd probably be incarcerated.

I work at a tech consulting firm doing cloud architecture, data science and data analytics work. The company has made several vocal committments to reaching certain demographic profile goals in the company, including 50/50 men and women.

What this means in practice is that they have to hire many more women than men fresh out of school. So as someone pretty early in his career most of my coworkers are women, most of my supervisors are women, and most of their supervisors are men.

I'm a QA Consultant (in IT). My job (QA) is pretty much 50/50, I work with developers who tend to be 95% men, business analysts that are typically 60/40 (women/men), designers 90/10 (women/men), etc. IT is always rumoured to be male-dominated, but tbh, every team I've been on has been roughly equally split between men and women.

By the way, just because you're in a male-dominated profession doesn't mean you can't understand women and, vice versa, just because you're in a female-dominated profession doesn't mean you can understand women. People also have a social life outside of work, they've got partners, they've got hobbies, they've got mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, etc. There's plenty of ways to learn how mature women behave. It's just that the average guy doesn't really learn that (and you could argue that also goes for the average woman!)

I own a company that (with not going into to much details) does sports & financial management (also youtubers and social media but mostly sports)

its very male dominated, but you develop pretty close relationships with the clients and those clients attract alot of females, so you end up in places that have lots of attractive woman.

Most of my dating options come from my social life though, through friends, networking, cold approach/warm approach, instagram, dating apps, the gym, events, club/bars, restaurants, networking etc.

I dont think a man working in a male dominated industry would affect his dating life too negatively if he has his shit together outside of work and retains a solid social circle and friends. I also would advise men to not mix business and pleasure by having sex with coworkers but I guess that depends on the job etc.

also alot of my friends work engineering, tech and finance jobs, and those are very male dominated, and they have zero issues getting girls and have very succesful dating lives/ sexual success

I've been working from home for half a decade now, long before Covid made it the thing to do. I work in telecommunications hauling fibre optic cables through underground conduits. We have a crew of 5 dudes. There are similar crews working all over the city. It's outside work often in hot weather (Australia) or on muddy construction sites. I've never once seen a woman working in this job. Before that I worked inside telephone exchanges as a technician. The last one is my only real issue with dating. Being stuck transitioning to a new life overseas and getting a brick-and-mortar business off the ground there (thanks COVID and Putin for being a plague upon humanity and jacking everything up) makes dating almost impossible. While most traditional missionary organizations field a ratio of about 5 to 8:1 single female-to-male ratios, what I'm doing is independent and incredibly specific.

There is even a dating site for missionaries with even more favorable ratios, but there's been no real matches for the life I'm about. And I refuse to turn my back on my purpose that will affect the lives of hundreds-- thousands of people in need.

There are nice and interesting girls in America, but it would be a mistake of epic proportions to try and talk one into this. I need someone who can't be talked out of it. And that is a hard ask; to leave one's friends, family, culture, and language behind for people they never met. It is significantly better to just wait it out and find someone in Romania who doesn't have to make those sacrifices. But I have to be able to finally stay there first.

Mechanical engineer + software programmer. My college life was boring in comparison to my athlete/liberal arts buddies. I was in a music fraternity, though, and that made up for it a bit. If you're reliant on your job to interact with women, then yes, you're going to struggle if you're in a male-dominated industry.

If you're in my position, you'd make up for fewer opportunities with women by getting into extracurriculars. I travel, hike, take a few cardio courses at the gym, do public speaking, professional networking, plus I'm a popular name in the local music scene. If you're an interesting person in general and others are drawn to you, then you'll fare better than if you waited for the 10 single women out of 1000+ people in your company to notice you. lol

If your job is hindering your ability to meet women,and you don't want to venture out, it helps if you move up the career ladder. Maybe become a manager or start your own business. Women tend to be drawn to men who can manage others.

I wouldn't consider dating any of them just because of the company culture and how messy it would be if we broke up. I would say a lot of people here have some sort of relationship or family. Personally, I don't have a lot of freetime outside of work to pursue the hobbies that I enjoy, so I don't meet a lot of women outside of work.

All very good.

I haven't had issues with women though. Neither have most of my colleagues. Many of the men I know are active and in good shape.

I also know more single women than single men at work. Most men I work with are in a relationship.

I got into STEM not because I'm introverted. I'm just v good at maths.

I think it's worth noting how I learned about existence of this sub.

First, there was a post in dataisbeautiful (or similar, don't remember exact one) that has shown that lots of users posting in /r/FemaleDatingStrategy also post in subs for people with mental issues. (the post was deleted, I guess even dry statistic can rub someone the wrong way)

It was contrasted with one of the men's subs, don't remember which one, probably /r/mensrights (corellation wiht subs like /r/pussypassdenied, but not with the types of subs mentioned above)

And one of the curious outcomes was that people from both groups, posted a lot in this sub.

Real estate developer/rental property owner and manager. I guess my only "coworker" is my wife. I spend a lot of time dealing with contractors who are of course nearly 100% male. We also deal with renters and potential renters who are maybe 60% female, but the missus handles most of that end. Before I got into this I worked at a trucking company (>90% male), and before that I had basically every restaurant/hospitality job you can think of (80% female front-of-house, 80% male back-of-house). My passion (that yields me little to no money) is portrait painting. Art school was about 3/4 female, and the art world probably averages out to 50/50 when you factor in artists, gallery owners, collectors, and fans who would be collectors if they had the money. But the older generation is more male (and disproportionately gay), while younger artists and gallery people skew female.

I work in the construction industry, but I work in the office, not out in the field.

We have 3 women in the company, all are in their 40s and married with kids. Actually, everyone in the company, both in the office (it’s only 5 people including myself) and out in the field, are married. Except for me, of course.

Only 2 other people (35 and 37) and I (31) are not in their 40s or older.

I think a good way to quantify this is a survey, you want to know: their sex, approx m/f %workplace, their personal views of women on a scale of 1:10 (maybe over several parameters ie trustworthiness, dependence, avg coworkers trust of women, etc). And a few questions to catch outliers, ie have you been cheated on y/n, is your mother/sister trustworthy.

That way you can compartmentalise which 1-10 ratings are more likely to be influenced by workplace, which should clean the data and answer your question.

Across all my jobs (6 years cumulatively) only one had women working in the department. Most men working in my roles were either married or settled into their LTR (myself included).

Wouldn't recommend dating at work. I've seen shit get awkward real fast with some colleagues.

Heavily male-dominated professions are those in which the employees stand a fair chance of dying; they're also those profession that extract the resources upon which YOUR lifestyle is dependent.

In my youth I worked at a place for 7 years when suddenly the safety guy comes up to me and reminds me that, on average, some (male) worker dies every 7 years. So don't let it be me.

I bet you dollars-to-doughnuts you've never, ever, ever worked in a place like that and so arguably you are the one incapable of understanding men in real life because you're too wrapped in your own privilege.

Consumer goods in Marketing, which is heavily female dominated and still want more women.

Fully transparent: there’s significant discrimination in Marketing if you aren’t a women and/or POC in the ‘top’ companies. That’s the ugly unfortunate reality that everyone wants to hush hush about. Several colleagues and friends have been laid off for very dubious reasons or skipped over promotions…all fit the ‘white male’ pattern they seem to not want.

If anyone wants to expose this and is starting their MBA journey I’m happy to point out the obvious ways you can find the blatant discrimination. Record them, document them, and sue the heck out of them so they stop this practice.

If I knew this path was so blatantly discriminatory I would have done that. Only way to stop companies from bad behavior is to hurt their wallet.
