No one wants to date someone with a mental illness. I have a mental illness and I definitely don’t want to date someone who has one because they aren’t romantic. They’re something that should be properly treated through therapy and other necessary means.

From what I’ve seen, FDS isn’t ableist or against people with mental illness. The philosophy is to stay away from men who don’t even try to take care of themselves mentally, physically or otherwise. Signs of an untreated mental illness are signs of an impending unhappy relationship. As the partner with extreme depression, I would know. My ex was miserable.

But I am happy and healthy now. And if I’m not happy, I work on getting back there. Can LVM say the same?

In the time I've been part of FDS, which I think is over a year now, I've learned a lot of things. Things which forced me to reflect on my past, my decision making, and generally dealing with a lot of skeletons in the closet. I've always operated from the assumption that FDS isn't a monolith. There are things we can all agree on and perhaps some things we won't. At the end of the day, however, the message I got from FDS is, "ladies, you don't need a man to having a fulfilling life, but if you do find someone you want to be with, make sure they come to you correct." I used to be absolutely terrified of the idea of never having a partner. Then I got one and suddenly my whole identity became my relationship. I can't even explain how lost and hurt I felt when I had to end it. I spent a long time crying and living in a toxic home didn't help. Sometimes I look back and wonder what if, but I know I'm better off here. I don't cry anymore either.

People can debate FDS till they're blue in the face. All I know is that I'm not afraid to be alone anymore.

Personally you ladies and this sub has changed my life and perspective. I was raised in a traditional Eastern European household and am a domestic violence survivor and this sub changed my thinking.

They will never understand the hurt, pain, suffering, and mental work it took to get us here. We didn’t wake up one day and decide we just hated men for no reason and wanted them to suffer because an ex wouldn’t buy us an expensive car one time.

We got here because we eventually realized that most men simply do not care about us as human beings whatsoever. I mean I genuinely believe that most men aren’t capable of actually loving a women and that was terrifying and depressing for me to admit to myself. It may be hard for some men to understand because they probably genuinely believe they are nice caring men, but I always ask them to evaluate their behavior with other men and behind closed doors. Do you laugh at the sexist jokes your coworker makes? Do you stay silent when you see your friend treating a women badly? Are older women invisible to you? It’s those things that truly make you caring, not how you treat women when you’re wanting something from her, not how you treat them out of view your friends.

We want men to do better and be better. We dream of the day that a sub like this has no need to exist anymore. There is no pleasure in this. This is what happens when we go into survival mode and we are tired.

I want men to see this and get it in their head that we aren’t asking them for millions of dollars and a large dick here. It’s got nothing to do with your looks, getting money from you, or anything else.
