It's so important to find your own way in life in those years. The learning and growing you do on your own is what shapes you into a functional adult. It's good to accept wisdom and advice from older people, but they in turn should be treating younger people with respect and propriety. Well-adjusted and emotionally healthy older adults understand the dynamics at play here and act with ethical consideration towards younger adults. Getting into a serious long-term relationship with someone much older can shape a woman's early adult years in ways that are detrimental to development and self-actualisation - I think the many stories posted in FDS and seen elsewhere are testament to that. YOU are the master of your own destiny and you do not need an older man to guide you through life. YOU can become worldly and experienced instead of just attaching yourself to someone who is.

I say all this as someone whose confidence went up and down through my younger adult years and who had a dodgy but thankfully not life-derailing relationship with an older man. Makes me think because I have definitely had interactions with men like the one described. They’re few and far between and they are just fleeting moments. It’s human nature to feel flattered when someone who is attractive and takes care of themselves goes out of their way to compliment you and make your day a little easier (paying for the thing she was already getting).
