Everyone says they’re okay being lonely forever until they are. So many people later in life settle for someone way below their standards just to avoid being lonely.

Saying “I’m okay with being lonely forever” is denial because you can’t say you’re okay with it until it’s happened, you can’t know you are truly okay with something until it’s happened to you and you found out you’re okay with it, you can’t say it like a fact before it’s happened. It’s like saying I love the taste of something before you’ve actually tried it.

Loneliness is hard and painful. Many people spend an eternity alone and it’s dreadful for them. If they need to constantly say they’re okay with it, it leaks their not. So many people commit suicide. So many people settle for somebody far below what their standard would have been at 25 or 30 just to avoid a lifetime of loneliness and depression.

Sexual needs can be met through, a girls trip to Italy or Turkey

Imagine if a guy said he doesn’t need a wife because he’ll spend his whole life going to brothels or going to Thailand for sex tourism. Wouldn’t you think he’s creepy, sad, and pathetic? It’s the same thing.

Because to society has labels them as “outcasts”usually.

A lot of the WGTOW types I have seen/heard about are the “witches.” They are simply women who want to live alone in the woods or be surrounded by plants and be happy with themselves and nature. People have always been “afraid” of these type of women. They are literal living examples of women (and all people) can be functional and even be useful to society while not conforming to social norms. Usually because they are “outcasts” they may seem cold or unfriendly because people do not treat them nicely so they might not be trusting of others and have a stigma directed towards them.

Also keep in mind, what does society say a man needs to do in order to contribute to society? Be a provider to a family. A lot of areas may seem “competitive” for men to find someone to marry and thus provide for or even have a lower population of women to men ratio. Now these “angry” men who struggle to find a partner see these WGTOW women as not only outcasts but also as direct threats to their own societal standing by “lowering their odds to find a partner.” Now if one of these men try to talk to one of them the woman is likely to say no, because they are WGTOW, and now to these men this is a personal attack.

With the internet, these men are able to create a whole echo chamber to complain about WGTOW. Now they are able to perpetuate this anger and even harass if desired.

I think it's the assumption they make that men must surely mean a great deal to these women, and so insulting them for being a "crazy cat lady" seems to them like it'd hurt, even if it wouldn't.

I'm happily in a relationship, but I can very much envison a happy life enjoying the company of pets.

I think, really, you kind of have to be able to envison being happy on your own no matter what, because unfortunately being widowed is still a thing, being left is still a thing too.

Ending up single is still a possibility no matter what, so it just makes sense to be able to see something resembling a good a life for yourself without a partner.

I don't particularly care. It's a bit weird to be so interested in the lives of complete strangers. And chances are I'd never really encounter a WGTOW anyway, because it's not something you write on your forehead as you go about your own life.

If I were to give an educated guess, it is because WGTOW comes across as a statement about how a woman feels about men in general, which in some dudes will cause some hurt on a personal level.

Thinking about the internet though, there's very likely a different reaction to WGTOW versus MGTOW. Both are perceived differently I think. Related to this is the idea that women can get a relationship (or at least male attention) without much effort on her part.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, unless a man has feelings for a woman who happens to be WGTOW, is a relative or a manospherian type of guy, chances are likely that they won't care much about WGTOW.

(I stress the manospherian part, because outside of the internet people are more likely to only care about things in their close vicinity. People in the real world aren't reactionaries with the time to focus on things that barely register in their surroundings)

One thing I notice if it ever comes up in conversation and I say yah do not want to get married again, don't want to live together the people who get offended tend to be women or couples. Then I have to explain I am not against all that for other people I am just not interested in it for me. If you want to get married great get married, if you don't great don't.

The conflict comes up when people with opposite views end up together and torment one another about it. I do think more women want to get married than men and are more likely to have idealized glossy images of marriage.

Women tend not to announce it like it is a brand new ideology they just move on with life. Most of the women here that get tagged as bitter man haters tend to WANT a relationship but pick badly or have bad luck. Either way they flopped at it and feel distress.

Not sure you even want to read this, but I have a female friend in her early 30s. She is an amazing individual, but not particularly attractive. She drinks a lot, and she just adopted two cats. Her standards for men are so high that she will never find anybody, and I have told her that with confidence. This is why she's been alone for the better part of a decade.

She has reached the point where she just says she'll be alone forever, but she's unhappy. She is in fact in therapy for being unhappy with life. She's got everything except a partner. She's successful, she's got a decent career, she's got friends. But having a family is out of the question at this point. She's got panic attacks.

If you are happy like this, you have reached peak western life style and individualism. But a lot of women end up in this position, and they are deeply unhappy. And they blame everybody except themselves. And there are a lot of bitter, alone men out there who think that there is something wrong with these women.

Let me repeat: If you are happy like this, you should not give a shit about men who are upset about this. I am a man who is in a happy relationship. At this point, I'd either be in this relationship or stay alone for the rest of my life. Nothing wrong with that attitude, whether you are a man or a woman. Don't let anybody tell you how to live your life.

Theres a big difference between saying you'll do it and doing it. The actual reality of being alone with a weak social life, staring down retirement with no kids while all your friends have families and lose time for you(or their schedule begins to revolve around Family Stuff you aren't involved in) is very different.

Theres a reason MGTOW's are also miserable 90% of the time. You aren't just getting free from the bad, you lose the good and the stuff that will make you relate to most of your peers. Most of the dudes in that age range at least try to keep a GF for a reason, even if they're otherwise self actualized with a decent social life. There is a HUGE difference between MGTOW & WGTOW which might help dig at the answer.

MGTOW men usually feel “wronged” by women/society and are often blatantly misogynistic. MGTOW wasn’t REALLY about helping men build fulfilling and happy lives away from relationships…it was bitching about women and trading borderline incel theories/rhetoric. They HATE women because they cannot HAVE women. The men on there are probably unattractive, socially awkward, lacking social intelligence, etc etc all leading to their lack of success with life & dating.

WGTOW is completely different, I mean just look at your own post and what you wrote. Your life is so fulfilling, well maintained, and happy that you don’t even NEED a man. A male partner is a luxury you WANT but are totally fine with not having if the right man isn’t available.

That right there is the difference. There are a plethora of reasons why some men hate independent or WGTOW type women; but in my experience I think it boils down to:

jealousy
feeling offended that women don’t “need” men, its a human trait to want to be NEEDED
independent women are much harder to control
if more and more women become WGTOW and refuse to settle with men, that means dating becomes even HARDER

It’s no different than when someone gets turned down and says something like “well you’re ugly anyway”. Some people can’t take any type of rejection. As a way to make themselves feel better they tell themselves and you that they were just being nice asking you out and you’re nothing special so no loss for them. They were just being charitable.

Also I think men are speaking of their own fears and experiences. They did enjoy their 20s and early 30s and are starting to settle down and may have regrets over some previous relationships that may have ended too soon.

I don't really care too much. Any amount I care is due to women being a net drain in terms of taxes while men are net contributors (as groups). I myself am in a high income group so pay a lot of taxes. So when I hear "oh, I'm doing this all by myself and don't need men for anything", I think "what a bunch of BS". And tbh, I do find them annoying. Like if you said it within your girls groups, no man would care unless he was invited into your spaces somehow. I often see it is as part of an overall attack on a specific man or in general. And in that case, of course men are going to snark back.

Anecdotally, the women who I have met with the mindset you are describing tend to be on the dole and are leeches, if not on society then their fathers. I think the "high powered, rich, self-sufficient" woman is as much as a fantasy as is the fantasy of a woman pining in loneliness. Having said that, I do know some cat women personally, and they aren't very happy or healthy. They also aren't terribly man hatey (relative to the crazies here), just more sad than anything.

Other reason being kids, marriage, family is a big predictor of female happiness in general.

I agree that some women might be ok with that, but if they see others married or get babies of their friends or sisters, it hurts, you find 60 70 year old women say with a sadness in their voice that they never had kids.

Now we are good at distract ourself, and that is not exclusive to women of course, but even that you mention some sort of work only by proxy if at all, with "manage my own finances" if that is not some social money, shows that at best your work is mostly a more or less neutral / negative way to earn money. While a man would especially if he has no wife lead with his career, shows another problem with women generally speaking, sure not all man have this careers but most have some of it.

So for a man a job can be a succifiant live goal, women don't need a man for sex, yes taht can be nice, too, but it's also to base them, from their mental illnesses and strong hormonal fluctuations.

And they shame you not so much to hurt you, even it's probably a bit revenge they also do it, to show the women that didn't miss the point to remember them how they will end if they make this bad decisions.

The main life-meaning of a women is to bear children, for an that is optional. a childless women is like a permanently unemployed man.

I can give you an argument for what they're saying if you like. There's a huge difference between being 25 and being 35 in terms of what you want out of life. Some people in their mid 20s seem to think that'll never happen and they'll always be into exactly what they are into now. The issue women face is your best options for dating are in your mid 20s and if you don't secure someone then, we'll you'll have much fewer options available.

You could probably rephrase what they're saying to "You're rolling some huge dice there and I think you're too nieve to understand the consequences"

I look at my parents, who have been together 35 years, through thick and thin, and realize that their relationship is probably the most important thing in their lives. Our family emerged from it. They supported eachother and were there to get each other through hardships they couldn't get through alone.

I see having a partner, even without having kids, as one of the most important aspects of a full, healthy life. Just like having a career you like, having healthy friendships, living somewhere you love, etc. Its probably the most important. If you have the right person in your life, everything feels possible.

It's fine for individuals of either gender to decide they are atypical and shouldn't be in a LTR.

But when you make it a movement, you are basically giving up on the human species IMO. This applies to men and women. There's no way that optimal human happiness doesn't involve most adult men and women having intimate relationships with someone of the other gender. We just need to figure this shit out.

MGTOW has a lot of problems, but at least logically it is more of a protest movement. It isn't really saying this is how it should be forever. I could be wrong, but WGTOW seems different on that score.

Because less than 5% of women have the money to retire and women routinely get very expensive in old age. They routinely ask for more benefits sooner than men. So who will take care of all these "independent" women when they become dependent? This is literally what husbands were for. You take care while he is alive and he takes care of you when he dies. No one want to care for childless single people. Men resent it because we will be left with the bill and ladies love to leave the dirty work and hard decisions to men.

I see the "you're a misogynist incel" insult thrown around a lot. Being single forever isn't a scary idea at all, at least if you're privileged enough to live in a first world country where basic rights are afforded. I have no problems meeting my physiological and safety needs. I manage my own finances. Emotional needs are met through healthy relationships with friends and self. Sexual needs can be met through prostitues. All my needs are met. I'm grateful for what I have and the life I've built on my own. Having a quality spouse is just a bonus on top of an already amazing life. But some women just can't stand not being needed. Instead of just being like "hey good for you" and moving on with their day, they have to make that snarky insult to try and tear us down. It's sad really.

The +GTOW is always going to be a threat.

it's not sad, men say that becoz they've seen/ heard the sadness experienced by those cat women complaining in real life and online about their failed relationships/ what would've beens/ and shitty luck in dating becoz of their age and looks. girls trip to turkey or italy isn't going to fulfill ur sexual needs all year round, and a lot of women can't afford that. life expectancy has increased so think with that in mind and being lonely isn't fun either. there are probably very few women who are happy being single till they die but they are rlly rare outliers. almost all don't like it, some say it while some hide it.

My question for the WGTOW women that don’t make over 6 figures. Who will take care of you when you retire? Your basic 401k likely won’t last long enough to keep you afloat longer than 10-15 years especially with inflation rising like it is. Also what if you have health problems? I'd say the term "40 year old cat lady" is in it's place for women who still want to find a male partner, but don't understand they have ridiculous requirements for him. And thus will more than likely never find him and end up with cats at an age she can no longer produce children, hence the 40 year old.
