I think that it’s male solipsism in that they like often like women who have little body fat, so they think that women want to see the same in men. I don’t even think that women across the world have one preferred body type and that what is preferred varies by culture, and that a good face is often more important to women than a good body is.

Two reasons I think:

Men and women seem to be talking about different things. A significant amount of women replied to this post saying they think the guy on the left is more attractive based on assumptions about his personality like because 'he seems less intense' or 'looks like he wouldn't judge you for eating a burger'. Men are just responding to who is more attractive purely physically.
It may not align with their lived experience. A lot of men that spend significant parts of the year being more and less lean would tell you being more lean gets them more attention from women.

I don't deny that many prefer the body on the right, but generally, surveys tend to find that body fat isn't attractive in men.

Also, the dude on the left is already very fit. You're not going to look like the guy on the right after just 3 months of working out and eating well unless you have a solid base. He just lost some body fat.

That said, I don't think dudes should base their health goals on what women want. A lot of dudes aren't meant to be burly, and carrying excess body fat for no reason (past a certain point) isn't worth it.

Could use a little more size but super in shape. He’s probably 12-15% body fat in that, which is as low as I like to go. Lower than that I usually feel like shit constantly, bad mood, depressed etc. on the right looks like 6-8% body fat which is like Olympian level. Also lighting is worse as well. In the same lighting you would get more even split but there would likely not be a clear preference for the right side. Also, women sometimes tend to think more than just visually, so they see the left and they see someone comfortable to be with but on the right it’s like oh he’s a psycho and we won’t have bread in the house or something. But even just visually, women definitely often prefer the left. He looks fucking good on the left, even stronger even though he isn’t.

Basically, if you can pass for an off season athlete, you are in top tier shape. Having a strong broad shouldered frame is often good enough to be “fake in shape,” but really you should just work out normally and you’ll build it naturally over time.

I think this "survey" is bullshit. I understand that the guy on the right might be a little *too* shredded and his shorts could be a little longer. Also, women have a strong tendency to make negative assumptions about men - "oh, he's in shape? His whole life probably revolves around the gym and eating chicken and broccoli. He's also probably full of himself. Maybe he's gay."

It would also be interesting to see the breakdown in what women preferred which body type. My guess is that overweight women prefer the left guy, because he's attainable, but the guy on the right looks like he would reject them and would make them feel self-conscious about their bodies. I'd bet that attractive, thin, yoga chicks would prefer the guy on the right.

Whatever the case, I can tell you that being in shape brings more attention on dating apps. Not making the argument myself, but I think it has to do with stated preferences vs what we actually see women go for in reality. Often women claim the want this or that, and when we observe their behavior it doesn't align with their supposed preference.

We could run an experiment with these two versions of the same person on Tinder for example, and it is probable that the more muscular one will get more matches.

Again, I'm not making the argument, just giving insight into what certain men (definitely red pillers) think about this. I understand there's more complicated reasons why stated preferences won't always match up with behavior, and that getting more matches on Tinder isn't the best measure for women's preferences.

I'm also going to pull the classic insecurity argument women love using against men lol. I think a lot of women wrongly associate muscular men with being shallow, assuming negative personality traits like aggression, etc. Not all women of course, many just simply see the first and think how cuddly and loveable that body type is, she doesn't need her man to be able to tear someone's head off from their shoulders.

A big reason why men are baffled over this is men and women simply find different things attractive for different reasons. Men are more directly sexually motivated in what they find attractive, nice ass, nice tits, pretty face. Women are too, but also more indirectly sexually motivated.

Men can be this way too of course. Many men love that Kim K, typical instagram hoe lip filler botox look, where as more and more men, including myself, find that repulsive. OR, it is strictly sexual appeal. I'm not attracted to you on any profound level, I just want to stick my dick in various orifices, and the second I bust you are no longer "attractive."

Less women approach sexuality in this manner. HOWEVER, I also think women tend to be more "politically correct" then men. So while a man will admit "yeah I only find her attractive because her dick sucking lips and fat ass, nothing else," women are less likely to admit the equivalent, hence why stated preferences vs difference in observed behavior is a thing.

Again, I'm not making any concrete claims of truth, just giving my two cents on what could be going on here.

That said... I do find it believable that women find shredded physiques less attractive than moderate body fat because I also feel that way. The right photo looks emaciated whereas the left is healthier (not perfect). I've always felt like minimal body fat is more like an unrealistic ideal rather than a legitimate target for a normal guy and that's a whole other rant.

My assumption is that they see the bodies of men that have millions of followers and men in movies. They think that the abs are what women want most. Realistically though, while women do like abs, there is a point in leanness where you start to look less "full" which is what the guy pictured is at. What they fail to realise is that despite having a little more fat on his stomach he looks broader shouldered and more masculine in the before. You can also still see his abs a little. The fat on his chest is actually falling nicely in a way that makes his pecs look more muscular. Once you start looking less full, women are no longer the people you're going to impress. Men in movies may have abs but they still have a "fullness" to there muscularity.

Fitness has a strong correlation with romantic success. Fitter is almost always better excluding extreme outlier like professional bodybuilders. That's a very consistent finding in studies on attraction.

Lighting, posing, and the hair is doing a lot of work here as well. Put these guys in neutral lighting, in clothes, neutral body language and guy on the right will do at least as good and almost certainly better than guy on the left.

In the real world chubby guys don't do better than fit guys unless there's a notable gap in facial attractiveness.

It's the same issue. People see a preference of the opposite sex and take it to extremes. There are women out there who get boob jobs to be as big as possible, thinking that bigger = better. There are men who think more muscles = more attractive. They both can be nice to look at, but at the end of the day, when considering a partner, people want fit and natural and normal.

A man who makes his whole life/personality about body-building is similar to a woman who starves herself and hides behind a wall of makeup. There's absolutely nothing wrong with improving oneself, but losing sight of the reason for it takes that person into unattractive territory.

Well, the before image is literally one full head taller...

The head is the same size in both images (you can measure it pixel by pixel), yet his body extends almost a full head taller in the before image (so much so that his feet are cut off).

It's probably a difference in camera angle, but regardless, that's a massive difference in percieved head-to-body ratio...

If the after image was reshot so that the head-to-body ratio matches the before image, peopel would likely vote very differently.

I’m not a woman but personally I think this guy clearly looks better in the first photo, but it’s more to do with his particular body, face and what suits him, and also what he’s wearing in each photo and his specific pose. Even the lighting composition in the first photo is more flattering.

However I think, more generally, a low body fat looks better on men than higher. The Greek god statue look, with exposed abs etc, is a good look. It’s just that it can’t be extrapolated to all men, and it doesn’t override all confounding factors.

He’s probably 14-16 percent body fat. That’s well within the range of attractiveness. The second issue is the second picture just isn’t a good picture. He’s looks like he’s 5’2, his face is depleted and it looks like a receding hairline. Best tip I've ever heard was, when it comes to relationships, not to listen to what women say, rather watch how they react. Most of the times what they say tend to have a "feel-good" vibe that comes from how they feel rather than reality.

They are not rejecting this specific case, they are rejecting the concept because this is only true in extreme cases like this. In either photo he is extremely fit to the point where most men will never be that fit in their life. The same concept of softer is better does not apply all the way down, there is eventually is a tipping point where the more jacked you are the better compared to being fat. The majority of men are not this case, hence why they claim women are lying because they are indeed fat, and have been turned down for more jacked men.

All evidence points to there is clearly upper limit how jacked you can be, where the guy on the right hits. But because most men are not nearly as jacked, they see the typical results of women liking more muscle compared to not.

TLDR women are not lying if they are referring to this specific photo only, they are lying if they make general platitudes like softer is better all the time.

My whole issue is in the left and right pic the guy is probably working out the same amount the only difference is on the right he’s dieting and tracking his macros better. Maybe extra cardio.

Guy on the left probably took a couple years to develop that base of muscle to cut down to. The women who are saying they don’t want the guy on the right cause he’d live in the gym don’t understand as a natty that guy on the left probably works out the same amount as he did in the after pic. He’s just lax with his diet.

It goes back to the whole concept of what women perceive a dad bod to be vs what is actually a dad bod

It's not complicated, remove the social media aspect and just stick both these men's photos on a dating app and see who gets more likes. I bet you right does far better than left.

That gets a better response when it comes to attraction.

Once again, it's a case of words vs actions. Men have seen which men get the most sex.

The core reason men believe women are lying when they say basically anything around the subject of attractiveness is that men have talked to women before.

I'm not saying women are lying about this, I'm saying women have lied so consistently on the subject of attractiveness that men simply don't believe them as a default assumption in the same way you would assume there's no wolf the 17th time the boy cries wolf.

I don't believe it bc it simply doesn't reflect what I see women being drawn to, what women stare at, who women choose to chat up and flirt with, and so on. All this talk of "he looks weird" "women don't really care about muscles" is just c0pe when you see enough women eyefuck men with muscles. Not saying a dadbod is "terrible" but literally have never seen a woman ogle extensively at one.

I suppose demographic matters, my mom would probably go for the guy on the left as well as many women in generations above. I think with age women prefer bigger or more dad-looking. Even then I've only seen her outwardly gasp or express "that is a beautiful man" to men who look much more like the picture on the right.

The problem is that for many of us, We've been both #1 and #2 at some point in our life. I personally have been an invisible to women 4, and also used steroids (prohormones technically when they were still legal) to get closer to the after appearance (although obviously way bigger) and what I would objectively call "an 8"

And you get treated better/significantly better by ALL women when you look like the after photo.

As for why women are saying they like the before photo? it's the artificial harsh lighting making him look bad. It's a bad photo. He is trying to emphasis his improved body with shadows, and women don't tend to like that "try hard" look.

So yea, women are lying because it doesn't track with my personal experience being treated by women. I've been losing 50lbs over the past 6 months. dieting on keto Every month I get better looking, and I also get more attention from women.

Again, he's "trying to hard" in that photo and the harsh shadows makes him look older. Women spend YEARS of their life trying to make the perfect selfie, you can't manipulate the manipulators.

6 feet tall - i want to feel secure, held , safe , so i need someone taller than me (taller the better)

6 pack - he has to be athletic , go to the gym , strong
