Women cultivate friendships better, on average, than men do. I am in touch with a dozen or so friends from middle school, high school, and college. I am close with most of my female first cousins. I have old colleagues that I am in touch with. My husband isn’t an active pursuer of his old friendships, so they tend to fizzle out. Friendship fills a lot of the relationship needs of women.

A rich man can live in his car by choice, driving from town to town and camping under the stars while considering that to be the best time in his life. This is because it’s his willful choice and he can always go buy a house if he wanted to. We don't think of sex with men as the measure of our worthiness.

Sex is enjoyable, but its meaning is derived from the context it's in. It isn't valuable in and of itself to us. Much more important is the person we're doing it with and what they mean to us. So without a man we give a damn about to make it all special and meaningful, it's just mechanics. Enjoyable mechanics, but still unremarkable in the greater scheme of things.

Many other things have higher priority and are much more enjoyable on a regular basis. Even without a partner, we can find joy in simply living our lives the way we see fit and pursuing our passions. We're more likely to have close relationships with our friends and family that fill our need for emotional intimacy.

Basically, there's more to live for than just being in a relationship.

It’s a proven fact that men gain more out of marriage than women. When I was at university I took a health psychology class and learned that men who have marital partners live longer than men without spouses whereas women who are single live longer than women who are married and child rearing. Women also initiate well over half of the divorces. I have no personal opinion on this but those are the facts.

Few years ago my dad explained to me how he loved doing business just to make money for my mom and to make her happy. Even when he wasn't passionate about business in the beginning the drive to provide for a family was motivation for him.

On the other hand, I have a aunt who was victim of domestic violence. She left her husband after 3 years and decided never to get married again.

Even if my parents decided to have divorce (they are not, they have been together for 26 years) my dad would loose money, women on the other hand have to go through mental trauma and years of therapy. Almost every woman I have ever talked said they would rather die virgin or never get married rather than be with someone who might make them suffer.

Plus women have better social life and don't have any stigma around talking about mental health.

Because men benefit from heterosexual relationships more than women. When men enter relationships with women, they have traditionally gotten free "bangmaids", and the only reason women did this is because men were forcing them to fulfill this role by keeping them out of the opportunities usually afforded to men. Thus, women are more content to stay single because it's easier for them to do so. I'd also like to add that when a woman enters a heterosexual relationship, she's much more likely to be abused than a man, so it's also an unnecessary risk for women.

Most men I know (family and friends) are never single or alone. They go from being catered to by their mothers or sisters then their girlfriends. They will tolerate the worst woman possible before they are alone. They either get sex or have a gf that cooks and cleans and takes care of their kids. They benefit from having women in their life.

Even when I’m around them I’m expected to do more. I end up doing more simple tasks and answering simple questions about normal things when I’m around men than when I’m around women.

You volunteer and make friends with the predominantly female volunteers there as well. Feel like you’re doing something meaningful while socialising. Get involved with schools and kids and fulfil that need for influencing the next generation as well. Get a hobby or two you enjoy. Get a sex toy or two you enjoy. Grow a pretty garden. Get some wine (or some weed). If you’re feeling like role playing a 1950s housewife get some Xanax and wash it down with a martini while making a variety of jams. I think the key thing is women tend to cultivate better support and social networks. Men, on the other hand, have issues with loneliness.

Being single is better than being in a "neutral" (neither bad nor particularily good) relationship, let alone a bad one. In the past women were pushed to marry for a better life since they couldn't really work and provide for themselves. Now young childless women actually tend to earn more than their male peers in large cities. So when in the past getting married could lead to a better quality of life, now that's not the case. They have to be pickier. I see this sentiment a lot among my female friends or other women I know: guys aren't competing with other guys. They competing with her and how good her life already is. If they don't make it better overall or if they're a drag, then they're not worth it.

Single childless women also tend to be happier than married women with children. However, the same can't be said of single men. Single men tend to be unhealthier, have higher rates of heart disease, live shorter lives, be unhappier and even get paid less (because they're viewed as not as good or responbile) as their married conterparts. The reasons for this could be many. For example, women are still responsbile for much of the housework, so when they get into the relationship, they actually get more chores while the men tend to get less. Wives tend to encourage healthier behavior in men. They take on more mental load, more stress etc. Obviously it's not the same for every single case, but the trend is there. It's enough that a "good enough" guy isn't actually good enough.

Divorce is associatd with worse mental adn physical health outcomes for men. Men tend to have weight fluctuations, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and higher incidences of stroke and heart disease. Men tend to avoid professional help and self medicate. They're not accustomed to seeking out emotional support from others who aren't their spouse, while woemn can rely on professionals, friends, or family members. Men tend to identify more with being a husband than women do with being wives. When going through a divorce they feel the loss more. Women are more likely to pick up new activities, join groups and over all are more social so they still have that connection and network afterwards. They don't see marriage as the central part of their identity. Even if it's just a break up, men tend to take longer than women to get over it.

I think there are a few possible reasons.

1) Some women are truly happy FA - and after having had failed relationships, they have decided they’re better off single.

2) Women tend to be more accepting/passive and won’t go out pursuing men if they’re not getting the men they want - they may just feel “if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be” and just accept it and move on if it doesn’t happen for them.

3) Connected to 2 - women are less driven and will more easily distract themselves and find other things to fulfil and engage them. Men may get more strongly affected by that discontent because they feel they should be more powerful and able to change their own destiny.

4) Unlike men, imo, I think women want orgasms and sexual pleasure but don’t necessarily attach that desire to the opposite sex/sex with another person. This makes women less “thirsty” for male company and sex by itself is not the goal for most women if that’s all a man is offering. It’s not like for like. Women ask a lot of men, I know - but it simply isn’t a “straight swap” and it never will be. If men don’t seem worth the potential physical and emotional investment that can come with sex, women will find ways to content themselves with their friends, family, pets, work and sex toys…

Most men get emotion support and affectionate touch almost exclusively from their partners and those are real human needs being unfulfilled.

For men, not being able to score is genetic death. Most women without a partner can still easily have kids from a one night stand if they chose to. It doesn't matter that they don't choose to, the point is they didn't evolve to fear rejection as a death-proxy.

Also, those women are pretty dissatisfied too (I'd say, knowing some of them). Being completely independent as a woman is heavily encouraged nowadays

Well I’m not sure about everyone but when I leave town my husband can’t find his clothes, struggles to feed him self healthy meals three times a day and hates cleaning up after himself. Also he while he values a little alone time, he doesn’t really like an empty house for a long time. As a stay at home wife I do all those things for him. He is fully capable of taking care of himself in those ways, but he has been out of practice for so long that it doesn’t come naturally.
When he is gone for a few days I miss him of course but my workload drops by a huge percentage. The house stays clean if I’m the only one using it. Dishes and laundry are under control. The only negative is loneliness.

So I think if one of us were to die early my husband would eventually remarry. He would need someone else in his life to be content. I’m don’t think that I would remarry unless I just met someone I couldn’t live without.

I chalk it up to being a matter of experience and societal values. When I was 22, I couldn't bear it. I thought I was doomed to be a kissless virgin (I know, it makes me cringe too), because I didn't know what women wanted, and I couldn't find a way to explore what I wanted, and we as people place so much value on sex/romance that I thought I was defective or something.

Once I managed to start a few short relationships, a lot of that feeling went away. I no longer feel like I'm sub-human or something, because I know that, even if only for a moment in the grand scheme of things, there have been women that saw something in me they wanted. But now I long for an actual relationship, one with loyalty, and the comforts of knowing at the end of the day, she wants me and "we're in this together."

In a sense, that longing is the same feeling–but the deep-seated insecurity I felt back then has been confronted, and I realize that if I want that, I have to work. Work on myself, work on my social circle, work on my (nonexistent) career. Because, and don't take this to mean that I'm sexist, this society (and thus most of its people) value women inherently, whereas men have to be/make/do something with their lives to be considered.

To put that in other terms, I think it's fair to say that most men would be more than happy with a woman that is simply attractive in his eyes, and kind. Literally, she doesn't have to have a high-powered career, she doesn't have to provide financial security, and she doesn't have to "achieve" anything if she doesn't want to. She just has to be there for her partner as his friend and as his sexual companion. That will more than satisfy the majority.

Thus, for a man, since the bar is nearly on the floor, the fact that no women have chosen to take the minimal effort required to step over that bar proves to the man that he just isn't worth the trouble. Whether that take is accurate or not (usually isn't), that hurts like a bitch.

I don't know if they are. I think due to evolution women have a strong need to feel like a man finds them valuable and desirable enough to invest in and commit to. A woman can get sex easy, but finding a man who wants to invest in you and commit to you and your offspring is harder.

Based on my personal experience, the women who are ok with being alone are usually divorced, middle aged single moms who have enough money to pay their bills and are attractive enough that they could get a new partner if they wanted. They're basically people who already had their kids, who have enough money to get by, and who know they could get another partner if they wanted one.

The women who want kids and don't have them yet, and who crave a man to invest in and commit to them are much less comfortable with being single, from what I've seen at least.

I think it partly has to do with what each gender gets out of a relationship. When I was single, with my own house, and my dog and my cat, I got to choose how things would be. I got to arrange my house how I wanted, spend my money how I wanted, go out when I wanted, tell my pets what to do, etc. I would *not* have been happy living by myself, without pets. For a lot of men, especially tradcon men with patriarchal attitudes, a spouse or girlfriend is kind of like having a sexy pet. They still expect to basically control the interactions and the relationship. They don't see women as intelligent, rational beings with their own agency - this is a critical part of terp ideology.

There are many comments here which are very valid parts to a larger reason why women might be more content to be alone.

I'm saying that because I'm about to add another part and I want to be sure that we understand that it's not the only part.

A woman's sex drive / reproductive drive is not only cyclical (way bigger ups and downs than men), but it also draws to a close much faster.

Once a woman's completed her biological imperative (having children) and also begins the very early stages of menopause around 40, those things that drive us to be together with the opposite sex, especially forced sex/reproductive reasons, drops off.

When a woman is low in her sexual cycle or it is over it is been my observation that women maintain their distance from Men and I think it's essentially because on some level she knows that he still wants some sex but she's just not interested. It's almost a disgust / threat response.

If you've ever had the opportunity to observe bovines just chilling out in the pasture, the bulls are only ever allowed near the female when she's ready for breeding.

Once she's become pregnant or had her calves the bulls are relegated to the fence lines. If a bull is getting too ornery and getting a little too close you can see the cows getting anxious and defensive especially when the Calves are around. Think of the bull in a china shop metaphor.

He's bigger he's more aggressive and essentially more dangerous around the females because of the constant desire to have sex but also a potential danger to the babies.

This absolutely happens in human women also. Once she's had her babies or even if she's just in a low part of her sexual cycles a man is to be busy working to provide resources and on alert for any potential threats.

Of course the human female has the capability to think and understands that the man in their relationship has needs too and if he doesn't get them fulfilled he could leave and this would leave her very vulnerable. So the human female will begrudgingly give up some duty sex from time to time but in the animal kingdom that rarely happens. There are some species that seem to have sex for fun but for most species they're just not interested when they're not in heat.

Furthermore, and in this modern society, women are usually cared for by the group whereas a male pretty much has to take care of himself. I see that men are hungrier because we still have that higher sex drive through our 40s and 50s and 60s. So we need to perform if we are to ever have sex again. Once a woman's basic needs are taken care of they're quite similar to the cows in the field. They are quite happy to stand around doing their cud all day doing virtually nothing.

The bulls on the other hand are usually out scratching themselves on fence posts or banging their horns against something or grunted or looking for an adversary to grapple with. On a working farm bulls are still required to work where the cows stand around and eat and get milked.

TL;DR once a woman has completed her biological imperative and has shelter and some basic foods and her basic needs are met they don't want to have much to do with men. This is also around the age where they know they kind of want to keep a guy around in case she needs him for some utility so maybe they are the older woman in the building that makes cabbage rolls or pastries and feeds the men. Food is now her main currency for trade with men.
