Ok, but so what? I can’t change my beauty or intelligence, so this is completely useless information.

And personally, as a woman who is more intelligent than beautiful (I’m just very plain looking, not ugly or fat), I’m honestly kind of grateful. My intelligence will be useful and helpful to me most of my life; if I were more beautiful, my looks would never have lasted much more than a decade anyways, no matter what I did.

If I had to choose smart or pretty, I’d still pick smart.

…and reading the men’s responses here of how they love dumb pretty women only confirms my view. I don’t see those women as having “triumphed” at all.

I think it’s probably true that less intelligent men aren’t interested in more intelligent women. But intelligent women do REALLY well with intelligent men. Highly educated men often seem to want someone who can understand them when they talk about their work and who hold interesting discussions in general, and someone who can keep up with the conversation in a group of coworkers. They seem happy to be able “show off” an accomplished woman to their families and coworkers.

The vast majority of women i socialize with are scientists (I’ll be the first to admit not all scientists are that smart, but most of the people i know and work with are very sharp imo). I think if your claims were true, I’d at least know SOME women who struggle. But just about every lady scientist i can think of is married or partnered, with a smart man (or occasionally woman) who is openly proud of her intellectual and career accomplishments.

My husband had a much more conventionally attractive (and younger) option when we started dating; he ended things with her and chose me (even though we started out long distance) in part because i am smarter, more mature, and more established. He was finishing his doctorate and ready to move forward with his career and life, and saw me as a partner in starting that life. (However! The big caveat is we were already close friends, he knew me very very well and there was already a level of emotional attachment between us. But seriously he did pick me over someone who is so much hotter.)

I do think it’s important, in general, not to try to lead with your CV when meeting new people. I’ve realized that almost no one cares. Your accomplishments may be icing on the cake, and with an intelligent person will only add to your appeal, but they will almost never be the primary reason someone likes you. I think this is true for men and women. I wouldn’t want to date or even befriend a neurosurgeon who only talked about being a neurosurgeon, ya know? Gotta have a personality outside of work.

Sure, there are many men who would give up their dignity just to please a pretty women just because they are pretty, but trust me you wouldnt envy those options, unless you re okay with dating complete doormat that the only respect he gets is superficial and that only dates you because of the validation you provide.

And im not gonna lie you and tell you that appearence doesnt matter, you wouldnt date a guy that found you ugly anyways would you? a highly doubt it, but you dont need to look like a next top model nor an "average" rom-com protagonist to find a man that truly loves you.

I think a beautiful woman is more likely to get attention from men than a fat ugly woman, regardless of educational attainment. However very attractive women can sometimes intimidate some men, so it could backfire as some men might convince themselves that " she is out of my league" or she will likely cheat on me in a year or two.

So for casual sex, a beautiful woman is a definite winner, but for LTR, it would depend on the man.

I want to be challenged and intellectually stimulated. It's what I live for.

I've had the dumb, attractive, nymphomaniac like girl, (a few actually,) no meaningful conversation, ever. It's fun for a while, then it gets hollow. It was great when life was just socializing, but when life gets serious, it becomes a bit like taking care of a child. If you get married and have kids, you want your wife to help take care of the kids, not to need taking care of herself. We had amazing chemistry even, and got along so well, but I wasn't going to marry her. My intelligent friends were not impressed, though the guys understood.

I have also been with my high school and university valedictorian. Fabulously amazing times. Don't think of movie stereotypes, not like that at all. One was a good girl, but not inside her head, the other was the polar opposite.

With a smart girl, you can talk about any topic that you can think of, and they never get upset, it's so freeing. They want to know. You can have so much fun with words.

I'll treat the smart girl better, because I respect her more. As smart people do, they do well without trying hard, so work is not an issue.

The thing is, you will notice this more, as you notice the girls who go for the guy with money. The well matched couples don't stand out.

This is not true in my experience growing up around wealth. All the upper class “old money” men I know went for women in their social class and social circles, not models. The women they married were pretty, but not super attractive.

I am a man, and I can confirm that you are pretty much spot on but let's be clear here; we are talking about men with options, most women, intelligent or not, do not want an average man, and a man with options has put enough effort into himself that he deserves his pick of those options (the legal options anyway) without shame, ridicule, or needing to justify his choice.

I mean, I'm not sure where women get the idea that intelligence or career are/should be attractive qualities to men. Money is a form of power. Intelligence is a form of power. The chemistry in the brain of two primates about to kill each other is the same chemistry that exists in two grandmasters during a chess tournament. Power and dominance are attractive to women. Men don't give a fuck about female power/dominance except in the bedroom. If you do somehow manage to attract a man using your intelligence/cash; it's probably because he is broke and/or desperate. We have our own power, and the more of it that we have; the less we need from a woman. When women ask us to be sexually attracted to powerful women, it's like men asking women to be sexually attracted to submissive men. Yeah, sure, we can value that power in the workplace, and give women all the same awards and privileges that their male counterparts get, but, when it comes to relationships, ultimately; attraction isn't a choice and power/dominance is just not what gets our rocks off. There is no debating, reasoning, or logicing that one away. It simply is what it is.

In fact, a dumb 9/10 will actually beat an intelligent 10/10 in most cases because the intellectual egos of intelligent women won't allow them to have the humility to give a man the space that he needs to be a man. The intelligence itself is actually awesome though. It would be amazing to have an intelligent house wife, who could understand and articulate deep philosophical ideas while rewiring the oven to send text messages using an arduino IF and ONLY IF she knew her role vs my role, respected my boundaries, and wasn't always looking over my shoulder trying to micromanage me. I'll definitely take a slightly smaller cup size or a few extra pounds if she is willing to be a compliment to my life and let daddy drive rather than trying to hi-jack it and create a "too many chiefs" scenario the minute things start to get a little bumpy.

And this is the difference we often see between actually intelligent and well-educated rich men and the “street smart” hustler rich men. I am a man, myself educated and somewhat intelligent... and not that good looking. I find intelligence attractive and being dumb incredibly repulsive. And even more for a meaningful relationship.

I would a 1000 times prefer an intelligent 4 to a dumb 7 or more. And most of the woman I dated had a master's degree and I found them pretty even if they were not steeming hot.

But that being said, I am invisible to most women too.

I am a PhD level scientist/engineer. I am not interested in women at my level. That's not to say I want someone stupid, but I am looking for a family woman. "Career women" are usually not good at this role. In my experience, "career women" are too self-interested, handle power/success in condescending ways, and aren't as good as being feminine/nurturing.

The analogue of this question is a man saying "hey I'm super attractive, but I'm a barista and I'm always getting passed up for less attractive men who are ambitious and successful and powerful".

Implicit in your post is the idea that "triumph" means being preferred by the average man as a sexual or marriage partner.

Besides lacking any actual data to support your claim, you also say this

Framed that way, in your world, being talentless but pretty is a silver medal at best and leads to relying on men who more often than not are insecure, and whose insecurity is expressed by a preference towards women who have nothing but looks going for them.

It also suggests that you see partnering as some kind of happily ever after, snd don't consider the higher likelihood of said talentless but pretty woman to end up in a financially, emotionally or physically abusive situation as a result of having nothing else to fall back on outside of looks.

While it’s true that I value intelligence not at all in a short term partner, I do value intelligence and educational attainment very highly in a long term partner. Just not as highly as I do physical attractiveness.

But here’s the thing — I value a woman’s intelligence for its utility. I want intelligent children, and also the mother’s educational attainment is highly correlated with that of the kids. Additionally having an intelligent partner is useful for problem solving and tracking interpersonal relationships, and the income premium from having a high IQ is always a nice plus. But none of those things make her more sexually attractive, just more useful.

Now a physically attractive partner also confers desirable traits to the children produced that are no less advantageous than having a high IQ. But in addition, being physically attractive makes the woman more overall sexually attractive in a very direct way, which adds to my overall quality of life. So on the balance it is a more important trait.

But obviously it goes without saying that in real life your choices are rarely just the binary decision of “hot but dumb” vs “smart but ugly”. Ideally you want above average on both fronts when choosing longterm partners, with hotness weighing a bit more.

A woman's career credentials are not a red flag or a green flag to a lot of men. Her looks, sexuality, and easygoing demeanor are what matter.

I have been rated a 5-6/10 and do not get many matches on dating apps or much attention in real life.

A 5 - 6 rated woman is a great catch if she is kind and easygoing. And she's not a workaholic who talks incessantly about her job.

The less attractive women have to work just as hard as many men do in the workplace, if not harder, just to get by. Her partner usually will not want to spoil her.

We hear a lot that successful career women don't need a man. I believe that's true. Those women can accomplish everything on their own, so men don't feel the need to spoil them.

What's in it for the man? A Type-A alpha woman who is aggressive and gets her way at work (because she needs to in order to compete), will likely be aggressive and overbearing at home. She may need an even more Type-A guy to make her feel feminine, and a lot of men don't measure up.

Men simply want a woman who boosts their ego and adds to their life in a fun sexual way. Just like women want men who add to their life in a confident, protective, generous, and emotionally supportive way.

I think it's a good ying-yang. Equal success partnerships is for the birds. There has to be a large enough difference for men to feel like they are needed.

That men value looks over anything else, that's a fact, I wouldn't go for the dumbest and there's certainly a floor I wouldn't cross other than for sex, but I'd certainly much rather date an 8/10 with average job/income than a 6/10 successful woman among top 5% earners in the country. The main reason is because I do well for myself and don't need anyone else to subsidize my lifestyle. Just focusing on money because it is the easiest example to link to success here.

However I have got to say that women's narrative of "men are scared of successful women because it attacks their masculinity" is utter bullshit. We are not at all. It is other traits that come with it that we don't like and that I have consistently seen when dating good looking, successful girls. They are just disconnected from reality. They are egocentric, entitled and because of their total lack of self-awareness they have unreasonable high standards, that translates to every single day been a test of your worth, with my last 2 ex-gf I had the feeling every day was an exam and you can't have a moment of weakness because it will be used against you and you will be looked down upon.

For some background I consider myself a 7-8/10 male, with my body being 8-9(I bodybuild).

There have been times when I knew that my attractiveness, presentability, and charisma gave me an absolute edge over my competition in business. And this is dealing with other men.

The only time it’s hurt me is with very obese ugly men(I get pretty boy comments from the toads). If women are involved, regardless of age(you’d be surprised with the pervy comments I have heard from grannies behind my back), I’m pretty much guaranteed the deal.

I tend to challenge almost every view of my SO. But that's because his views are rly stupid and I consider him to be dumb person in many respects as well. The dude is 30 btw. 3) He believes everything in life returns and all bad or good you get is deserved, that's apparently how universe works. When I say what did r@ped kids do to deserve it he says then their parents did smth bad. Or grandparents. He got a fine for driving too fast and he said that apparently in the past he got excess money, right the amount of a now fine, and universe took it back 🤡😆

Lol. I'd consider myself around a 6 and I've always been fine and gotten who or what I wanted. Never been left or mistreated. I could be wrong about how people perceive me but I'm usually one of the prettier women around when it's me and my peers. But I'm no VS model. I don't think I've ever seen any woman above a "5" struggle unless there's something "wrong" with who they are, not how they look.

Looks triumph for everyone imo. I give zero fucks about what a guy does for work or studies as long as he can support himself. Looks, personality, and behavior are supreme imo.

Also most trophy wives just make being hot their profession. You can do that. You just make your entire look about your appearance and little else. Gym, surgery, botox, makeup, nice clothes. It's 100% doable.

My previous girlfriend was attractive and had a great body. Her personality was also very laid back and fun and I adored her. That was what made me so drawn to her. She was also working on her Master's to become a nurse practitioner. I was very happy for her, but that part did not make me more attracted to her. She could have been a Walmart cashier and it wouldn't have made a difference.

The reality is usually that she just likes the other guy more and it’s not really about height or money. I’d say something similar to that when it comes to how men choose who they’ll be with. I would say in my experience, men want women less intelligent than them, but not horrifically stupid. (Unless they are horrifically stupid, of course). I have found being smarter than men was not a boon. They did not enjoy it typically. I certainly learned it is best to keep a lot of things to myself and not share them unless asked because men find equal or greater intelligence to be threatening.

And yes, men don't give a rats about your achievements or job generally. I don't really either tho, so that works for me. But, yes, I also realize this is largely true.

What about a woman's achievements (likely built upon a mountain of debt in the US,) are attractive to me? Practically nothing.

Her ability to have gainful employment is merely a nice asset that is to be weighed against other marital assets like time, money, energy, etc. In my personal case, I would consider if those skills are in any way useful towards my business, missionary, or humanitarian goals? If not? Then what good were those years and tens of thousands of dollars spent?

(Also, you have a weird dichotomy that women only come in flavors of pretty/dumb and plain/smart. Also another weird dimension of thinking that smart=successful and/or has achievements.)

While I have no interest in dullards who sit at home all day and do nothing with their lives, there is so much more to life that I value besides diplomas and paychecks. Because, I assure you, if you have two incomes, you will find ways to spend two incomes worth of money.

By all means, give me a doctor, whose parents paid off her schooling, and wants to raise a family while running a mobile clinic for the poor; ramping up as children become more independent. I will take that in half a heartbeat.

But even if women only came on the intelligence/attractiveness scale you hold up, it's a darn good thing the dumb ones at least have something to trade on. You can get prettier, you can't get smarter. And I have yet to meet an IQ score where things like honesty, integrity, fidelity, accountability, a pleasant attitude, and a concern for personal health correlate. And however smart someone thinks they are, as far as I'm concerned, you're only as smart as the dumbest mistake you never learn from... and that includes the sea of mistakes other people make and warn you about, like debt.

As far as the work argument that trophy wives at least get to stay home. This I will agree with I've often had this conversation with girlfriends females in my family my mother-in-law as well as grandparents.

But I don't think it necessarily comes down to being prettier.

I think that modern women were sold a false narrative that working and being independent was greater than being a stay-at-home mother.

I suspect this was all to increase the number of taxable working adults and to split the family unit to allow the government to fully indoctrinate children.

From my experience as a woman is this category, it depends on how intelligent the man is. Intelligent men like intelligent women because dumb women can’t converse. It’s the same reason why intelligent women want intelligent men.

And when less than 2% of people on the planet (overall, that’s before dividing gender) don’t meet the standard, the next thing to settle for is whatever looks good but isn’t intelligent. Women do this too, but it doesn’t usually last very long because she will get bored.

And as you said, men don’t like a woman who’s smarter than them. They need the ego, to feel like they’re the best at everything. So many men are intimidated by intelligence. The only exceptions really are men who are intelligent themselves, and again, that’s not common.

The title is correct. However, it’s not because men “biologically want to be leaders.” Not that much is really established as being “biological.” Men biologically want attractive women. The rest is very much environmental, societal, and personal. A man insecure about his intelligence or who feels the need to be in control of everything probably won’t want a smart woman. But most highly educated men want someone they can have a decent conversation with and who won’t embarrass them in their social circles. In fact, if I went to work, I’d be paying more for someone to watch my kids (or to put them in daycare), than I would be making in the workforce and I have a college degree. I can only really speak for myself but I don't think it's as straight forward as "hot and dumber" is better than intelligent but "less attractive".

I think intelligence is actually quite attractive but the overriding important factor to me personally is probably compatibility and attitude. Of course looks are important but once a woman passes a certain threshold then it becomes far less important (and I don't honestly believe my threshold for looks is that unrealistic, though I suppose that's ultimately for others to judge).

For example, I'd take a decently attractive but kind (not just kind to you because you're her BF, but genuinely a kind person) and pleasant woman over an intelligent, and extremely attractive woman that isn't as pleasant to be around.

Also, I think intelligence isn't always necessarily measured in academic achievement. I've known some really smart people (men and women) that didn't do particularly well at school for one reason or another.

It's also important to mention that just because you think you're intelligent doesn't necessarily mean you are, I've also bumped into a few people that were moderately smart, don't get me wrong, but not as intelligent as they believed.

I am reasonably fit, reasonably intelligent, reasonably interesting, and reasonably well off. To your credit, I agree that I prioritize looks more than I perhaps should. At the end of the day, I’m attracted to her, or I’m not. And 90% of what drives my attraction is her appearance. But by merely being “not fat,” a woman is dateable in my book.

As for your argument/view that intelligence/accomplishments don’t matter, I would mostly agree. She could be a Mensa card CEO by day and a sexual dynamo by night, but it wouldn’t make a lick of difference to me if I don’t find her attractive.

Where I take issue with your view is your rationale for why this is the case.

Idk OP, that's not really what I see. Most of the highly educated couples I know are "power couples"... doctors dating doctors, engineers dating engineers, etc.

One thing I think PPD gets wrong is how most men want to be super dominant and better than their wives at everything. In my experience, a lot of guys do this masculinity gender performance art in public, but in private they don't mind taking the backseat and switching it up. Curious - you work for a top company but do you make top pay? You’re a valedictorian at your university but is it an Ivy League?

I actually have never heard of a valedictorian for a university - lol. I mean - it makes sense but I figured there were always too many for it to matter.

Many more “successful” women get passed over because this has always stuck out to me - women can earn money but they will never spend it on you. Men earn their money and spend it on their family - that’s often their reason for climbing so hard. Women climb for self-interest, men climb for family.

So, I think that’s why they don’t care. They know that on average you’re not going to contribute to the family like they are and so why bother getting a woman who is more “successful” if she’s never going to share it. Maybe you’re different but I’ve rarely met such women! They’re also usually not single and are very much married to their college boyfriend.

Also I disagree about the level of work that women have to do in the workplace. It’s so common as to be a trope that women get diversity hired these days especially at high paying tech companies. The bar is lower and you’ll get paid as much as your peers - if not more. Certainly the standards for me were way higher than for my female peers. They were shocked when they heard my ratings and feedback compared to theirs because they thought I was an exceptional employee. Ultimately - many will stay blind willingly because it helps them.

You may be book smart, but it seems that may be the only thing going for you. Your framing of leadership makes that very clear. If you're questioning his every move, then he isn't your leader. If you want to be led, then you need to find a man you can trust to actually lead you. This has nothing to do with intelligence and everything to do with being a pain in the ass. A woman who wants a leader and refuses to be led is determined to be single.

Looks were always the priority for men, but a hot woman who is intelligent is better than a hot woman who is unintelligent.

man do not want dumb women, but they also do not want women with "personal achievents". Thats completely useless to us.

you are completely out of touch with what men value in women. apart from sexual triggers, we value women who are USEFUL and of SERVICE to us, who make us feel like men and who do the house, be emotionally supportive, be cheerful and enthusiastic, and being mothers to have a family unit to belong to and care for, so that we can be men and do our job.

all that matters are the attributes that signal that. submission, enthusiasm, trusting us for help, and being of service emotionally and domestically, and the feminine submissive mannerism that come with that.

what you describe is not intelligence, its ego, degree, career and masculinity. an achievement or a career in a woman is valueless to us, because it has nothing to do with what I said we value. In fact a women concerned with achievements is increadibly off putting, because it is masculine. we are looking for something different, a cheerful submissive young woman who is only concerned with the family unit and the well being of the people who belong to it, like women used to.

how intelligent she is only has a meaning when it leads to attentive behavior and capability in her role. being emotionally intelligent and attentive to our needs, especially inside a family unit.

also you do see many successful men of substance have more reserved, more mindful and attentive women. these men do not date the super attractive ego driven women, you never see that.

btw, it speaks volumes when you talk about getting spoiled and getting ressources as getting better treatment. all of these women are chronically depressed and unhappy, because women should not be spoiled.

the metric of success is true fulfillment and meaning across your life, not materialism and riches. if you talk about that, of course the best looking ones will always get spoiled, but they are the most unhappy out of all women because of it. I could easily make a case that being a pretty woman today will guarantee you to be broke, lonely and depressed after the youth is over. being pretty is the number one predictor of having no family unit and no meaningful interaction with any human, especially when the sexual power fades and was wasted on hedonism.

If a woman was truly intelligent, she would not participate in modern culture, and try to find the right guy to invest in as early as possible. And they are doing that.

most of these women get with a dude early, pick the first dude who fits the needs, and stay and go on with live. these are the women who have functioning family units and are therefore the most successful, because thats the metric for success. so true intelligence is working in their favor.

Intelligence tends to be a turn off when it's just used to argue and contradict a man's point of view for the sake of it. It's not attractive at all unless you have a world class level sense of humor and can get away with it.

Well people are always going to majority date in their social circles, I'm not going to go as far as to say dumb women I don't think anybody wants to talk to rocks for brains, just fuck her brains out lol, but I think most men just want somebody who's at the very least intellectually curious, an Ivy League scholarship is not a requirement lol
