It's very possible yes, but if so, then why has it never happened to me? There are two possible answers, either I am exceptionally despicable and my flaws are so grand that no one is willing to look past them, or I'm average or slightly below average and no one is willing to look past the pretty minor flaws that make me so.

Now, do I think that women are evil monsters for disliking me? No, not at all. I get it, for that to be the case there must be something really wrong with me. I can either accept that it is what it is, or I can try to figure out what the problem is so that I can fix it. But it is inarguable that in my "base state" I'm an unlikable guy.

The problem is that in trying to make myself likable and attractive I'm making myself less me. Being myself has not worked up to this point, age 30, therefore I must change, but in changing I'm not being myself and if by this strategy I do eventually find love she's not going to be loving the real me. I may have built myself into a better person, but that's an image, not really me as I came out of the womb.

So what exactly is it that then makes me attractive? How much of this armor can I shed before I'm suddenly my normal, ugly self again and she leaves? I need to know, so I can specially careful with that mask so it doesn't drop. I need to know why she's with me, because I do know for a fact that no one likes me for me, so for someone to be with me yeah they must either be mistaken or they're settling or they want something outside of my self that I possess, like money.

I disagree. I have been in love and still believe in it, however love is a mixture of emotions and practical considerations all mixed into one. It's lust, it's friendship, it's attraction, it's sexual compatibility, it's being in life circumstances that makes it mutually beneficial to be together. Monetary, social and sexual needs are all part of the love equation.

BTW 50% of couples divorce, this does not mean the remaining are still in love. Many stay together for practical considerations or fear.

I wasn’t sure about love and thought it was a choice. But after losing a girl that I did love but was so scared to tell her, I’ve determined its a decision and not just a choice. A choice is choosing but a decision comes from within and manifests itself as a choice. Sounds spiritual and stuff but I have regretted for over 2 years my decision not to love and after much pain and self reflection have realized that next time I meet a girl I really like and love then I’m deciding that love is possible despite her and my problems if I think it can work at all. Cause a life without love is dark and hopeless and i don’t want to live like that. It’s really worth fighting for and believing in and I see that now after losing someone that had her fair share of problems but would have stuck with me. I could have made her life better too and we were attracted to each other but I didn’t give her my heart and we just never improved once she knew I was holding back. We would have struggled but it would have been worth it I see now :-(

It's not that the sub doesn't believe in love, I just think there is no data to back it up. Everything suggests that women look for a certain set of characteristics in their partner and so do men. Here’s my theory; People are naturally competitive and might compare their self worth to others. When it comes to dating, they might feel insecure so they demand a high value partner. If they can score a high value partner and receive commitment from them, then they found their love. In my opinion, love is someone special that makes you feel special. But the problem is people aren’t finding that special person. I don’t think this applies to everyone, but usually the narcissistic/competitive type personalities.

I think that a lot of guys here were hurt falling in love in the past, whether it was through being cheated on or dumped in a relationship, or whether it was being turned down by some woman who they had a thing for.

Because of this, the men here seem to focus on gaining sexual attraction first, as they believe that this is the key to gaining long-term commitment. It must be a very sort of specific sort of venomous insecure autism/other mental or experience failures. Every boyfriend (4) including my current I’ve had has had mild to moderate autism, but none of them were unsuccessful with women and despite it being harder for them growing up, they succesfully learned to socialize and attract (more than average) amount of attention & affection from women. Them all being good looking helps ofcourse. Being attractive makes it easier to learn to be social.

Autistic men can really go either way, they can become awkward spiteful recluses or they become extremely loyal and loving people, more so than average non autistic men in my experience. I never selected for autistic men, I just so happened consistently come across them because they were exceptionally loyal and sweet. None of my boyfriends have ever (that I know of obviously) cheated on me, betrayed my trust, hurt me, etc. Lots of the toxic elements men can often exhibit in dating seem to be largely absent from autistic men who are socialized and helped properly.

Frankly I blame the parents atleast partially for not assisting their sons when they had the chance.

It’s completely orthogonal - such debates don’t particularly suggest the presence or absence of it at all.

If, say, planes worked 70% of the time but crashed 30% of the time you don’t really get anywhere by reiterating how great it is that most of the time there aren’t crashes. Your goal is to debug and fix the problem space. That’s where 100% of the interesting conversation is.

To your credit, lately my impression has been that PPD has become more polarized between men/women and overall less optimistic about society.

That said, I don’t think that people here don’t believe in love. I think most people here believe in love, yearn for love, and are unsuccessful in finding love. At least, that’s why I’m here.

I can’t speak too intelligibly as to women’s thoughts on this, but I can reasonably extrapolate men’s thoughts.

If I didn’t believe in love, and I wanted sex, I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t just go to TRP and seduction subs. That’s what those subs are focused on optimizing.

Hell, most of the threads/arguments here revolve around arguing interpretations of studies for long term matches/relationships. All the crap about n count, pair bonding, age gaps, socioeconomic class, race- even height- is argued in the context of “does the other person really like me in a sustainable (forever) kind of way?” If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

I prepared a bunch of snarky remarks, such as a rhetorical question if employees should be happy with 50% workplace mortality rate, being warmed by the thought that the other 50% will survive. But instead, let me remind you:

the lifetime of true love is something that the vast majority of people will never experience. The vast majority. Never.

I even had a couple tabs showing that brain scans of elderly couples show the same activation patterns as young couples in love in... less than half of the sample.

The best thing we can realistically hope for is a harmonious complementary relationship where no-one hates each other and contributes to, rather than subtracts from, each other's happiness, that lasts long enough for the kids to graduate high school.

Nah. I have a mental health disorder and I know love exists. I’ve seen it, even in my own family. I think most people in this sub believe love or at least lust exists, they just don’t think they’re worthy of it or will ever get it so it must be sour grapes.

I'm red pill. I'm a red pill man. I've been absorbing red pill truths and knowledge or in other words basically been getting red pilled for two and a half years now and I still believe in long-term romantic love. Being ruthlessly hell-bent on developing yourself as a man as much as possible focusing on your purpose in life staying on your mission and just self-improving and as many different areas in your life that needs improving as a man as possible. Improving your physical health and your financial health. Working out as much as you possibly can consistently in the gym or otherwise eating healthy and making as much money as you can and the smartest way is possible. But most of all learning practicing and mastering game and seduction. Being supremely confident in yourself and being aware of and paying attention to body language social cues and how one as a man is talking to a woman. Not trying to overly impress women or being afraid to upset them and most definitely not being uncomfortable with rejection which is a guarantee most of the time. To continue my comment yes the vast majority of women view the vast majority of men as ugly betas and only sexually desire and fantasize the top 20% of men the tiny majority of men who are high value alphas. Tons of men believe that unattractive men will never be sexually and or romantically successful women so logically with that being the case you should be doing everything in your power to make yourself as extremely attractive to women as possible. You can get the women you want and have her devotion and loyalty by transforming yourself into a high value alpha stud. There's no reason why most men if they put in the work and they focus on bettering themselves can't get a gorgeous woman who wants them for them and not their money or status why they can't get a gorgeous woman who will most definitely have long-lasting genuine burning desire for them. Obviously you look out for gold diggers and women who could be human red flags and you safeguard yourself against how shitty women can be. As a man you're supposed to just drastically increase and skyrocket your sexual market value till it can't get any higher. You want to turn yourself into a man that all women want. You want to become and live your life as a man that a gorgeous women will be way more than happy and willing to be as obedient to as a slave. Unconditional love does not exist in relationships as a constant, it happens as a moment in rare circumstances. This applies to all relationships, even between parents and kids. 99% of the time all relationships are conditional without exception.

I am slightly out off by the idea we should love at all.

Just like people might have reasons to love that many here are unable to see, there are reasons for people on this forum to doubt its existence.

I used to believe in it, even after living with a family that was forced into a relationship that they never knew how to love. Constantly hearing either silence or fights is good evidence to believe love doesn't happen everywhere, limiting whatever power people talk about regarding its presence. But hey still believed in it.

Believed in it despite being unattractive and unsocial for a predominant period of time. With no guidance or reality checks, I just kept believing. And encouraging those with relationships if they need help.

I passed youth like that till I realised I'm the one dude in the group who has never been in a relationship and offers a listening ear to others. Probably common but strange nevertheless.

Could I talk to someone about lack of sexual experience or confidence or lack of attraction? The same generic advice. Hell, some people just didn't want to have a discussion, because no person likes to actually dissect love if they have it. Understandable but unhelpful.

Eventually realised it was a matter of not realising what love looks for. Some level of attraction initially, but when all the attractive phase is done and life takes its toll, anyone who provides a way out of loneliness.

Anyone will be affectionate with anyone over the years if they spend enough time with each other. I'm no red or blue or any piller at this point it's just generic simplified to dumb truth kinda garbage for people who want a quick simple answer, but I can't help but wish the worst on loving couples. Bit of a problem, but it's the only thing to calm the inner demons.

Hell even if I work on myself, probably can't look at it the same way. Even if an attractive woman I previously would have gone crazy over would come approach me, probably can't take it seriously knowing the limits of that attention. And to those who aren't that confident of themselves, but choose me, just a matter of losing whatever I hold as attractive for them to leave.

Ofcourse there's no reason ANYONE should like me given these thoughts, rightfully so. But it's come to a point where I know I've dug a hole for myself and not sure why I should get out, not after following the "just love!" idea for so long to just be treated like crap.

So, yeah. Keep your love and judgements. Frankly, I'm a bigger proponent of strength on your own, until you find an adequate reason to love someone or something. While I do mourn the same loss of love you see in this group, which I see in me, I detest the idea that they don't have their reasons for being here. People are not that stupid. They may be hiding from a fact, or ignorant or stubborn, but if it's that good intuitively, they wouldn't be here.

I'd say, let them be. I apply the same rule to them as I do to my inner demon. As long you hurt no one or don't cross any boundaries, feel free to do or believe as you wish. When you start noticing this could get out of hand, seek help. If you're tired of the lack of love here, you're tired to ask the question "Why?". Don't be the person that says "Just do it".

Otherwise, thank you for the input. Probably the final answer but without the proof.

You can love somebody and they can not love you back. That's the main issue this sub has with love. I loved my high school crush. She's the only girl I'll ever love. If she had picked me, I would have had a normal life where I didn't have to worry about this stuff. Because she didn't like me back automatically by the sheer power of my love for her, I'm completely traumatized and devastated. Now I go through life, picking my relationships like I would a sandwich at subway.

I now firmly believe the people that believe in TRP or any other pill just do not believe people can genuinely love each other.

Love is an emotion. You can only genuinely feel an emotion. You can't disingenuously feel it.

That said, emotions don't mean shit. They are very transitory. Feeling love does not mean you won't betray the other person or aren't using that person. What really matters is the relationship you build with the person and how much you place that relationship and the other person's interests before your own selfish interests.

Love isn't some mystical entity that creates a supernatural bound between two people. It's just a chemical concoction that evolved to help selfish genes survive. It's been put on a pedestal for far too long.

Staying with someone and whether love is conditional or not is not the same to me. I would still love someone where we end up being incompatible and wish them all the best. Some parents kick out their children or minimise contact because of issues, that’s not the same as not loving them. The same goes for partner. Dumping is not usually because of lack of love. After a while you lose the attachment, but that’s not the same as not loving them.

I think love in relationships is unconditional.

I would not love someone if they ended up being super abusive but even then I might still love them in part. I would however not accept all sorts of behaviours.

This idea that relationships are transactional is a bit of a cluster B type of mindset. Narcissistic people tend to see other people as ”supplies”.
