My husbands a gamer but he has other hobbies too! He got me into gaming but I'm not interested in playing some of the stuff he plays but I love hearing about why he loves it. We usually play smash together which is the only game we have in common thats multi-player.

I think a lot of women don't like it because 1. Some people do have addictions and 2. Some guys are kinda mean even when their partner is interested in learning more. My husband and I have full on conversations while he games and I draw, so it still feels like we can hang out despite doing our own thing. A lot of men will kinda stonewall you when they are playing, and if its a recurring thing I can see why some women get frustrated

Let me just start with: I love watching my fiance play video games, and also love playing video games on my own and with him. It is one of the many things we bond over.

However - there are a lot of people out there (mostly men, because there are still more men into gaming than women statistically, although the numbers have been moving towards equilibrium for a while now) who have literal video game addiction. All of their free time is sucked into a game. No time is given to anything else in their life - their personal growth, their personal hygiene, their housekeeping, their relationships, etc. I find that most women who are with men who like video games and they don't find this to be the issue, not just that the man is playing video games, but that he lets it get to the point where he neglects everything else.

Of course, I'm sure there are also women out there with men who play a normal amount of video games and still pay attention to other parts of their lives who are also just insecure and attention-hogs and are offended that their SO would rather play a game than pay attention to them. I just think that is a less common case.

Because of perceived stagnancy. Women hate stagnancy in men more than anything else. Stagnancy comes before everything as #1 most repulsive trait in men; more than weakness, childishness and even financial instability. What do all these traits have in common? STAGNANCY. Whether actual or not. An immobile man is perceived to be stagnant.

Once a woman is and feels secure; men can do whatever they want. The notion is that a highly productive man will have no time for video games - but this is akin to making the argument a highly productive/successful man would have no time for relaxation - because of fear of STAGNANCY; the #1 insecurity in all females. If a woman leaves a man, she is fed up with his stagnancy: in character, in mind, in body, and what ever form. Stagnancy does not mean resting, stagnancy resting permanently (or circularly) without a vision forward. A man "rests" but never in stagnancy. "Resting in stagnancy," has traditional roots in femininity - hence "resting in my femininity."

I think "childish" traits are a part of a healthy man to some degree and also comes with being the "builders" of the sexes that contributes to visionary-like traits; in his down time there should be some type of masculine-leaning behaviors and traits.

Ex; irrational "projects" (see Colin Furze on YouTube that builds crazy stuff in his garage). For some men, this is video games. Whatever the case, "childishness" is a part of being a builder/visionary, adventure-seeking, and other attractive traits in males. I do not care about 'childish' traits in a man so long as there isn't any stagnancy.

Not my experience at all. They've had a problem with men being addicted to it, spending 3-4 hours on them each day. Some go overboard and say "I hate all men who play video games", but when you dig into it it's always they same. They had an ex who neglected them to play CoD for 6 hours straight.

I've never had an issue with any prior girlfriend for gaming, but then I only keep it to 1-2 hours when I'm with them, which they are fine with and either watches or does something like knitting or reading a book, and save my longer sessions for when I'm alone.

I have absolutely no problem with a boyfriend playing video games. A few hours a day even (provided they don’t neglect other aspects of their life)

My problem is when it’s more important than our relationship. Usually when it’s an addiction and they are neglecting the relationship and/or other parts of their life to do so.

It’s the same reason I wouldn’t date someone who is addicted to the gym. They neglect everything else for that addiction

My girlfriend has no problems with me playing video games, 1) because if she’s sitting on the couch I play some interesting for a viewer and 2) I only play like two hours a day anyway after the kid goes to bed and after we eat dinner.

I have a feeling there is a very small portion of women who may see it as “childish”. I think most women, however, don’t care. The problem is a lot of men are addicted to gaming and by addicted I mean, spending their entire day off gaming, turning others down because of your guild or whatever. Just hours and hours staring at a screen. Do that with just about anything and your partner will have a problem. Video games are engaging enough to pull you in like they though.

For me it's not the video games themselves, it's when it causes neglect of the other parts of your life. My partners best friend is addicted in my opinion, he ignores everything else for several hours at a time and that is not good enough in my book. It causes so many arguments with his partner.

My partner plays computer games too but is a little more reasonable with his usage, but even still, he will ignore the baby crying or not get things done because he has been engrossed in some game. I don't understand the importance placed on a game. Can't you just pause it and come back to it at a more appropriate time? It's like people get so engrossed in make believe that they forget about reality. I just think a better balance is needed with some people

Like if you have a gamer boyfriend, you typically have experienced showing up at their home to spend time together and them going "hold on, I just need to help out for a lil bit, it won't take long" and then they hop on their game.

...that shit really doesn't happen with other hobbies unless it's an actual emergency...

Like, if I have a boyfriend that plays football, I'm never gonna show up to his house and have him be "just a second, I just need to go kick a ball for a minute. I'll be right back.". Like...let's say someone broke a foot and they NEED my boyfriend, that's not last minute, that's usually cancel the date a fair bit beforehand.

And if that's not rude enough... they typically behave like it's just a minute and it's fucking hours and HOW DARE YOU try and interrupt them to ask them to stop. "Like...how annoying are you? I'm just gaming. Fucking women."

Gamer boyfriends are like that friend that's always hours late everywhere. They have no respect for your time or plans made and expect you to have endless patience so that they can do whatever whenever.

And people really don't like that. If I'm showing up to spend time together, the time together better not be...me sitting around, twirling my thumbs because I didn't even know I had to bring a book, so you can game.

I think a lot of non game players view gaming as a very vapid, wasteful activity. That alone irritates them. They probably look at it similarly to how they would look at you if you just slept away most of the day. They get upset because you could be using that time on something they deem to be more valuable.

Because some men spend basically every free moment on video games, to the point that important things aren’t getting done and they’re not even present as a partner. Of course it can be this way with other things too, but it tends to be video games most often. So usually, a woman has a bad experience with someone like this, and then decides she hates video games. Personally, my dealbreaker is if my partner consistently chooses games over other activities. As a filler activity when there’s not much else to do or to relax, no problem. Basically, how you would feel if your wife or gf ignored you, your kids, and important household tasks to watch TV or something.

I have no issues with my fiancé playing video games at all! I actually enjoy watching him (we only have one tv and it’s in the living room) play the ones with a story like Red Dead but he also plays silly ones like Skate and Lego Star Wars to unwind. Thing is, he usually only plays on the weekends or if he is rained off work. Even when he is rained off work and playing video games, I still come home to a few loads of washing done and dinner in the oven.

The issue arises when there’s an issue with priorities which so many men seem to struggle with. For example, I had a friend who built a 5 bedroom house with her husband (she’s the bread winner). It was 5 bedroom so he could keep all his games and toys in one of the rooms and not in the common areas. She got her big fancy house not filled with figurines and he got his own space so win win.

He ended up spending 5-12 hours a DAY in that room depending on his work schedule. Even when they had kids, he would skulk in there straight after he finished work and then stay until the wee hours of the morning. No helping with bedtime routine, no cooking/cleaning on his days off, no childcare at all. Nothing. (and keep in mind my friend took only 6 weeks maternity leave as she runs her on health clinic and is the psychologist at the clinic). So she was the breadwinner, main childcare and only housekeeper.

He just didn’t understand “why she hated video games so much”.

I've never heard of gaming per se being seen as a problem. What is a problem is when someone prioritises gaming over their partner, or uses it as an excuse to avoid things. Of course, any activity can be a problem, but gaming is a big one as it's particularly addictive and just involves sitting on your arse.

There are a lot of “safe” answers in here, I think for people to feel more accepting.

However, In my personal experience with women I’ve dated, it is viewed as childish and not masculine.

Whenever the topic of video games has come up with these women, there’s been almost a look of relief/slight increase in attraction when they find out I’m not at all interested in video games. I don’t feel like they would outright say that or break things off if they found I did play…

But a similar comparison would be this: imagine a woman dating a tall man with tattoos, who enjoys CrossFit and has a great job, then finding out he plays Pokémon with his buddies on Thursday nights. It’s the same type of thing.

I don’t believe it’s an attention thing or having fun without her either, because none of these women would care if I went rock climbing or golfing with my boys without her. They would have all definitely had negative feelings to me going to a buddies to play video games.

I know it’s anecdotal, and could be my social circle. But it’s the way it’s been presented to me by women.

I don't dislike socialising, watching movies, walking, spending time with my partner etc.

I do when I want to play a game and I clock watch, all those things are annoying things keeping me from doing what I want to do and builds resentfulness.

I’m a gamer, I like playing video games and having a partner who likes video games is not a problem.

The only thing I have any problem with is if the video gaming time ends up being so substantial we can’t do anything else in our life that I enjoy. I actually have a harder time with this than my partner; he can play for a hour once a day and be fine, whereas when I’m into a game I want to play for long stretches daily and it cuts into everything else. I wouldn’t necessarily want to date myself in those periods, but happily I come up for air pretty often and only really go on gaming streaks when time otherwise allows.

Back when I played, my then-wife would be mildly annoyed even if she was falling asleep on the couch watching season 1000 of procedural crime drama, and declined my request to watch a show together. It would always come up in arguments “you’re playing that damn game” even though I did it after getting declined by her. There’s more to it than video game addiction. Women just have a revulsion for it, probably because it’s something fun you’re doing without them.

I think it depends a lot on the woman. I don’t believe video games are childish—have you seen the God of War games? I don’t think those are for kids!

But I do believe that if someone plays excessively it can lead to resentment from the other partner.

In my relationship my boyfriend is a computer engineer, so a lot of his life revolves around computers! He’s also an avid gamer, streamer, and does a lot of coding as a hobby.

A lot of this takes time. A lot of time. And sometimes I do feel like I’m playing second fiddle to his PC.

The majority of the time though I’m loved a lot. He dotes on me and makes me feel like I’m his sole priority in life—not that I want to be, he needs his career and education.

But yeah, it all depends on the people in the relationship. If the man can’t find a balance between video gaming and spending time with his partner then of course that would brew resentment for the hobby!

But no, if the man can balance his responsibilities to his own enjoyment and entertainment with his responsibilities to the relationship and his career then most women won’t see a problem with him playing video games or see it as childish.

Hell, if anything’s on par with my childhood it would be me planning a massive Lego collection room with my boyfriend. Star Wars sets, Lego history sets, etc.

I love playing video games myself and specifically sought out a guy that also played video games.

But my friends don't, and although they mostly did date/marry guys that played video games (because pretty much everyone does), it's not something they like.

Those same friends expressed similar annoyance when I played too much video games around them, and I think it's mostly because they just don't like or understand what's fun about it, so they get bored each time I talk about it. To them, it creates nothing and you gain no value at the end of it.

So I think they just think it's one of the more useless hobbies that they can't even participate in or appreciate. So it makes sense that they would prefer it if you don't play. But just because it's not ideal, doesn't mean you can't play video games. People that are different can be friends and be in relationships, as long as your other qualities match and you like each other regardless.

I used to make fun of my friend that spends like 10 hours baking a single cake and it went like this:

Me: You know you can just go and buy a cake for like $20 right? Think about how much you make an hour. How is this worth your time?

Her: I see you play your game for like 10 hours, at least I have a cake by the end of this

Me: I'm trying to climb the ladder and get to a new rank. I get ladder points out of this.

Her: So you just spent 10 hours just so you have more points on an arbitrary ladder system? How is this better than a cake?

Me: ... um... actually I lost just as much as I won... I don't actually have any more ladder points than when I started...

Her: ...... you want some cake?

Ultimately I can only speak for myself but what would annoy me is when they knew they were going to be playing the game but would still invite me over or continue plans and not reschedule. I didn’t understand what the point of having me over to watch them play games was. I could’ve just stayed in the comfort of my own home chilling. Maybe some men are better at managing their relationships and game play but the ones who aren’t probably leave a bad taste in womens mouths. I wouldn’t say it’s hatred either, just an aversion.

It’s just the addiction, honestly. I don’t mind if it’s a hobby in moderation like anything else, but the hours of video game time, taking away from better things (quality time with your spouse for example) is why it’s a problem.

I can put down my doomscroll at the drop of a hat if my husband is done doing whatever silly thing he is doing. My Netflix gets paused. MMORPG's don't get paused at the drop of a hat, and people- especially addicted people- have to spend a long time on it to even accomplish anything digital. I learned about this due to my husband; women I know don't seem to have this issue. He goes through phases with it, but I don't see it being too bad. Only issue is that he refuses to do activities like swimming and vacationing with me because he's in front of a screen. It's worse than my issues, for sure, but he has it under control better than his brother and many other men. He still functions pretty highly.

-Did he help with chores before he retreated? -Did he already eat so the partner doesn't have to make food alone? Or did he at least offer to cook every other day? -Does he spend every moment that he has retreating to his games, or does he also take time for his partner, friends, and family? -Does he game loudly or without headphones?

There are many reasons why someone could hate their partners gaming habits. Games are addictive. If the person isn't responsible enough to balance their home life and their fun life, that could be the obvious reason.

I love video games and I’ve played them since I was young. I’d really like to have a boyfriend who plays them also.

However, I had an ex that was completely absorbed by his game. He wouldn’t talk to me all day, he didn’t have any other hobbies, he only ate quick and unhealthy meals and Diet Coke because he was so eager to get back on his game. When I’d have him come to my house to spend the night, he’d complain about how he missed his games all night, which I literally offered to play on my ps4 with him, but he wouldn’t want to. It made me feel like crap, I mean, imagine having someone so eager to connect with you but you’d rather be infront of a screen constantly.

Guys that play video games aren’t bad, guys that are addicted to video games are annoying.

I view video games as a hobby like any other hobby. I support my husband in his hobbies and I genuinely am happy when they make him happy! Even if I’m not into them. :)

What I hate is when my husband plays video games and ignores the rest of life. This hasn’t been a serious issue for a long time but when we first were married it was a really big problem. He would come home and immediately sit down and play video games instead of doing the dishes so I could make dinner. So I would have to do both. It was a chore that he had chosen and we had agreed on. So it breeded a lot of resentment because he wasn’t doing what he said he would and then I would have to do his chore and mine when I got home. Then he would apologize and promise to do better and then would not do it again.

Now he limits his video game to free time or when a new game is coming out or he needs more time he communicates it and we work around it together. There’s a lot less resentment in our marriage and he literally has every gaming system and a huge tv that is his ultimate gaming system that I absolutely LOVE that he has!!

I think it comes down to respect. When you truly respect your partner and can work together instead of just doing whatever you want, whenever you want, being in a relationship gets infinitely easier.

I don’t think it’s video games specifically that women hate, I think it’s the way a lot of men consume them to the detriment of things around them. It’s like anything, you need moderation.

I thought this too until I left college and ally different girlfriends didn’t mind one bit. There were/are many times my girlfriend would sit with me as I play video games or do something else while I played. My brother in law is a big gamer and my sister has had zero issues with it.

Most of my “fears” came from early 2000’s logic that equated video games to laziness, memes, gaming circle jerks that all girls hate video games, and people complaining about their partner’s literal addiction where they don’t even leave the house, eat, or shower for days.

Unless your gaming is stopping you from being a decent person, basic hygiene routines, and or choosing it over your loved ones; girls/partners are not bothered by video games.

I'm a gamer myself, but I think there are a couple of things here.

First, of course, there are men who have literal gaming addictions and neglect other aspects of their lives, including their family and relationships.

Second, there's an attitude among some people (men and women in my experience, and usually of an older generation) that gaming is childish, a waste of time, not a real hobby, etc. That's not an attitude reserved for gaming exclusively. Many people seem to think that anything they don't share an interest in is worthless, even if it brings someone else joy. I've seen that directed at one of my hobbies, horseback riding. I'm not sure where the idea that gaming is childish came from though. Maybe because it is often enjoyed by children...I really don't get it to be honest.

It does seem like a childish activity. A distraction from real life. Anecdotally, all the men in my life who play video games are sad lazy losers and those who don’t, have become a lot more successful in life are more grounded in reality.

That being said, I went through my own Elder Scrolls/Fallout/Sims stage. I would characterize that period of my life as a lazy loser stage and I am genuinely sad about all the time I wasted on this silly stuff. The ignorance of youth is thinking you have all the time in the world.

My boyfriend and I play videogames together, but we don't really play them alone. I could not date a "gamer", I find it a major turnoff. I watched way too much anime and played video games in high school and it took away from my social life - I became reclusive and super socially awkward. I was severely depressed during this period in my life, so whenever I see a gamer it just reminds me of that and brings back bad memories.

I like video games. I love playing with people. I have known only two guys who played video games likable.

One of the potential problems is that video games often feel better than other hobbies. It can make him a bore who can only talk video games and computers. I will hate him soon.

Another thing is that due to the addictive nature some guys neglect everything else. Including hygiene and health.

Watching a guy who plays video games do it badly is a turnoff.

Games satisfy the drive to improve so a lot of guys don't have it outside of getting better at games.

You must be a younger guy without kids. Generally if you're a man who's living with a woman, you're pretty much expected to be doing work any time you're not doing something fun with your spouse. Theres always a million things that need to be done around the house, you could alway be earning more money to set the family up better, and stuff like working out or playing sports at least improves your appearance and health and helps you network with other active people.

If you want to see a woman absolutely seethe and rage, take a nap in the middle of the day on a weekend when she's not free to take a nap herself, but she's still around the house doing stuff. It’s one thing to sit down and play a game for an hour or two on the weekends. That’s fine and I don’t think many women would have a problem with that.

It’s another to play for an hour or two every night after work, or for hours on weekends.

When people are working, you only have a few hours in the evenings to spend time together. In my case, I never really hated video games, but I hated the fact that my partner was ALWAYS home because that was his main hobby. I never had any alone time in our small flat. He studied mostly from home and didn't have a job, while I spent about 30h a week at university and worked outside as well. Whenever I came home, he was there. I personally don’t care and prefer this type of guy over the ones who party hard bc I find party guys more likely to cheat tbh. It’s only a problem when they’re lazy and neglect other aspects of self improvement and the relationship when it becomes a problem. For example I had a gamer bf in college who was failing most of his classes and very close to getting kicked out of his parents that somehow had time to play league of legends but not for his school work or to look for a job. Also, he didn’t have money to go on dates so I always end up footing the bill. That kind of gaming addiction is problematic. It’s not a problem if you’re taking care of your shit in real life.

Ime certain types of video games are looked down on more than others. Gritty, realistic FPS seems to be really off-putting for a lot of women. I don't viscerally hate it, but it has always been one of my least favorite genres to play personally.

As for fantasy rpg's or more story-driven stuff, there are more women who are totally okay with their SO playing and may even watch him or ask him to teach her how to play.

I’m a guy and while I did play around with video games a little bit 25-30 years ago, as a kid, I couldn’t imagine playing a video game as an adult today. I thought their popularity waned. I’m not sure that so many people have strong opinions about video games in these times.

Every woman is like this. My ex wife became fascinated with Skyrim and Fallout 3 and would sit and watch me play for hours. Grand Theft Auto 5 too. She'd usually be on her laptop while I played. But I also made sure to take time out just to focus on things she liked to do, like shopping or watching movies and shows she liked.

I'm a long time game addict and the only time my girls got mad at me playing vigya was because I wasn't including them.

Surprisingly even 32 yo mom was willing to watch me play games as long as I kept her engaged, kept conversation going.

When the game gets intense and you can't respond to her is when they get mad.

Anecdote: she happily sat and spoke with me on an off day while I finished a whole civ campaign. But my silent monster hunter/God eater speed runs would leave her noticeably mad, even if it was only literally 3-4 mins from load screen to loadscreen

Games are inherently designed to keep you playing as long as possible. Some people are extremely susceptible to it, others not so much. But even someone with a pretty strong resolve can get sucked in if the game really taps into something they really enjoy.

I don't consider myself to be a game addict by any means. I play video games maybe about once a week if I'm lucky. But I did play Elden Ring to the point where it was actually causing me some distress in my day to-day life. After my wife pointed it out, I stopped playing.

If you don't watch your habits, sometimes they can consume you.

My experience is that lots of women don't find nerdy hobbies as attractive ( things like D&D, Warhammer, Lego, and video games). I think this plays a huge effect into how they view them in general.

Next is that lots of women don't get into playing video games at all, so they never really understand the joy, fun, and sense of accomplishment that they can provide.

Lastly, video games are something that can be picked up and put down freely (unlike other hobbies like woodworking etc); moreover it's something that is done after work at home. This can lead to a conflict of playing video games or doing chores.

If we put them all together you end up with women who are just like you parents and think video games are a waste of time that you do instead of doing chores.

Because up until a little over a decade ago there was a firm divide between "jocks" and "nerds." Jocks still played some games, But if someone's identity revolved around doing so a lot, they were generally considered a nerd. Nerds were associated with being in poor shape, and not being particularly attractive.

While the divide has started eroding, variants of it still exist. For awhile "neckbeard" just became the new nerd, but with a few details mixed around.

While dumb sports people aren't held in as high of esteem anymore, a bit of this dynamic still exists. There's still a presumption that attractive go getters won't play as many games. Nowadays a lot of people would rather go with the nerdy side deliberately though. But it's not going to be everyone. And if you act like that is all you do it's going to be viewed with suspicion.

As a man who’s been a prolific gamer, and with a girlfriend that has ranged from critical of the hobby to partaking in it herself, the big issue is the scope of gaming. Being a gamer and playing games can mean a lot of different things.

A lot of games are designed to encourage unhealthy behavior through a variety of insidious means, and getting snared by them is not a good look. When my girlfriend has a problem with my gaming, she was justified: I was trying to get into Destiny 2 raiding, which meant 20-40 hours a week in blocks of 2-5 hours where interruptions are unwelcome. This is basically necessary with the way the game works. It was unhealthy, so eventually I quit.

Most normal women don’t have a problem with men gaming in moderation, but gaming companies don’t want you to game in moderation.

My advice: find yourself a gamer. When you're depressed and use games to escape reality, she's going to understand. When she does the same, you're going to understand. It's just as simple, you just need to have that as your personal boundary for relationships, just like some people want to smoke a blunt together, you want to play videogames and chill. Me and my fiancée go around the town looking for arcades to play and we're building a game room together. She's just as into games as i am and having games as the main subject in most conversations never go wrong. Just be sure that both of you do the same amount of chores and you're golden. Then you just don't need to care about the view of any other woman in the world on games.

Just be careful not to choose the misandrist radfem FDS kind. They exist in this environment too, as you could check in some of the old FDS threads about the subject. "I'm a gamer myself but i'd never date a guy that calls him the same because insert all the exaggerated classic views that FDS has on men", so don't go drooling in any girl that plays games, know the people they are first.

Also, any place that is considered "male environment" or any hobby that is considered a "man thing" will be negatively viewed by women, and it doesn't help that in fact the gaming community is infested by misoginists(which i can see with my own eyes when i play online games with my girl), but as time goes by and more women become adept, it tends to get a little better, although at first they probably make some racionalization to differentiate why it's ok when the same thing is done by women. Some examples of it are porn, which was heavily criticized until the "becoming adept movement" happened and it became a sex positivity thing, and shipping 2 people of the same gender in fiction, like when men used to do that in animes and the girls got disgusted 'til the so called fujoshi fandom(girls that like yaoi aka men/men works of fiction in animes and mangas) became a thing and it's much rarier to see they complaining about men enjoying yuri now, altho you can still see some setting excuses to make us see the two things as different. (Generally something about it being ok to objectify men while objectifying women).

Hate is a strong word, I would use “dislike” instead. At least that’s my opinion on it. If it’s just a few hours per week (like most hobbies are), then I don’t mind. The thing with gaming is that it usually takes more time than that.

I’ve noticed the same with my friends who play video games. It often controls their schedules. I also feel like an outsider, not knowing games or characters, etc. (I know they feel the same way whenever I talk about my hobbies, which is why I have pretty much stopped talking about them). I wouldn’t want to feel like that in my relationship. And I don’t. My husband plays, but it usually doesn’t affect us. His other hobbies take up more time, haha. But I prefer watching him playing an instrument than playing a game.

I had a friend who dated someone who used to game for 6-7 hours daily. Lost his job and continued gaming like crazy. Apparently, he'd shower once in 5 days, since he was engrossed in DOTA 2 and others. His 'squad' had guys similar to this, playing till 3 am, one of them living with his mum (wasn't looking for a job) and would have the mum shouting at him in the background. One of the members of the squad got dumped by his girl due to this lifestyle.

My current boyfriend plays sports and I am really not into sports. However - it makes him look good physically and it's really good for his mental health. So I'm happy to date a jock because of this.

I genuinely believe that gaming was the catalyst that killed my first relationship. He became insular and boring and we just stopped having as much fun together.

That's three days in my house where all they have to do is feed my dog. No rent, free food and internet, they can do quite literally anything except let kids in my house. Watch TV and play games to your hearts content I've always been the sole provider and I like it that way.

That means I'm at home four days. In a perfect world my first day off were going hiking, fishing, to the gym, boating, swimming or something to help me burn energy and exhaust myself to unwind from sunrise to sunset. The next day we rest. Play games, snuggle, order food and be lazy while we recoup. Day three is up to them. If we go out we go out. If they want to chill, we chill. Day four I try to do the opposite of day three. If we rested I'd like to at least go on a walk, if my partner chooses to go do something day four is a chill day, might walk the dog if I get bored.

That means there's only two days out of the week I'll try to get them out and do something with me. Naturally if one of us are sick, injured, doing something important, or we're in horrible weather (blizzard or thunderstorm, rain and cold is whatever) I won't even try.

That's 104 days out of a 365 day year I want my partner away from a screen. Less than 1/3rd almost 1/4th of the year. I do the cooking, cleaning, shopping, working, and repairs. I avoid people with jobs or in college. I'm ONLY asking for less than a quarter of their free time if they'd rather spend it inside with a screen I get a little bitter. It doesn't have to be games, could be a phone addiction or movies, laptop, laying down doing nothing but listen to music. I don't care, give me a reason at least. Don't want to do something because you're sunburned or achy from the last time, cool. Still avoid going somewhere with me because of a twisted ankle you got three months ago? Get out or don't bitch when I leave you behind but I WILL NOT be held hostage because of your screen addiction. I have and will stop paying for internet and your subscriptions, phone or whatever the problem is if you won't give me that quarter of your year and refuse to give me that time alone. Be clingy OR an addict either is fine but not both.

Video games are what brought me to my current LTR partner! We bonded over the same consoles and the same games, and still do to this day. Idk if I'm an anomaly really though I've heard women really hate their boyfriend/husband playing them, and other women like me who really like it.

I think tbh it's the men who are unhealthily addicted to video games who women complain about most. Like the guy won't pull his weight in the relationship and / or neglects her or work in favor of games.

Think unemployed depressed weed bum constantly gaming and doing nothing else.. girlfriend is pissed and he only gets mad when she confronts him. That's definitely a story I've seen pretty often on relationship advice subs.

I didn’t care that my ex played video games. It was his hobby. What bothered me was everything was revolves around the game. We couldn’t have date night, go grocery shopping, or be out too long, because it might interfere with the raid times. It was literally work and game. It was seeing more time and energy going into a game with people who you’d never meet than your girl begging for some one on one time.

I play video games and I am semi involved in gamer communities but I don't think I'd want to marry a full time gamer. My list of reasons are as follows:

They tend to be lazy/unpassionate and unambitious.
A lot of them do spend copious amounts of time gaming, and will resume doing this once the novelty of having a gf wears off.
They are not romantic types, there is a common correlation I've seen with my girl friends having gamer boyfriends and them neglecting her and never taking her out anywhere.
Generalizing here, but gamer culture is woman hating and degenerate and sometimes these traits seep out into the man.

Yeah I enjoy a dude with a few nerd interests but if it's his lifestyle you have to tread carefully.

The funny part about the majority of the women's responses in this thread is if the genders had been reversed and their boyfriends were disapproving of their hobbies and sited self-interested reasons as to why (i.e. "it keeps her in shape which is a plus for me" or "it makes more money that I can use") they would be scolded by the larger community for being unsupportive partners and the women would be told to dump them in favor of partners that are more supportive.

It's the addiction we don't like. When you can put it down to come and have dinner, your rl emotional wellbeing is hinged on your ingame sucess. You're playing for more than a few hours per week/ it's your main hobby qnd you're more actively invested in it than us.

It's like asking why don't women like it when men drink alcohol or gamble. We don't mind, it's the addictive behaviour to something that is either not useful or actively harmful in day to day life.

If you're making money off of gaming it has real life benefits, otherwise you're just spunking your time and attention.

Or, people who play video games are fine, "gamer boys" usually don't have an interest in actual relationships, they just want a girl to play video games with and have sex with, but they'll still expect the girl to act like they're in a committed relationship. If you get these guys to take you on an actual date, they'll still fucking talk about video games.
