I think in this day and age, there really isn't a big difference between men and women regarding whom they consider "casual only".

For casual sex, physical attractiveness, flirtyness and feeling sufficiently safe are required.

What's not important are shared life goals, hobbies, financial status and whether the partner will go along with friends and family. However, when we're talking about "relationship/marriage material" these factors play a huge role.

The hook ups at the time were almost completely random, just a case as is with most men of being lonely, frustrated and thinking “I’d take any company right now, you’ll do”. I didn’t enjoy it, end up not seeing any of them again and it left me feeling empty. The sex was always subpar and I always held back from doing all the fun stuff I like to do in the bedroom because I had to be cautious about contracting an STI (Oral for example). I couldn’t explore any of the rough stuff I like because I didn’t trust these people (how could I ? It’s casual, and I’m typically smaller than my sexual counterparts and less strong just as is statistically likely for me).

The sex was awkward, uncomfortable, I felt like I couldn’t relax and had to hide my flaws and vulnerabilities to be seen as more attractive to them. My hook up counterparts also often expressed frustration that I didn’t want to go down on them (again, trust and STI risks) or was a bit uptight about the sex so I know they didn’t enjoy it as much either.

With my boyfriend there is so much more trust and exploration and zero shame. We can do everything without fear of STI or pregnancy as we are both childfree and sterile. The sex is fun, safe, comfortable, adventurous and exciting. I orgasm frequently because I’m comfortable and he understands what gets me off.

I’ve sprung onto him many times because I was excited, and we have good communication and I knew I could count on him to tell me if he wasn’t feeling it. I’ve never enjoyed sex more or had it more frequently and more playfully. I truly think had he been a hook up he would have enjoyed the sex a lot less.

As for the men I hooked up with, I wouldn’t want any of them now. They were not special, just available at my lowest.

The number of times I've had essentially this talk, from someone I loved and wanted to love deeply, is extremely painful.

I don’t understand this post. Because women purposely look for husband material.

If you want to be sleep around, then yes go ahead, be hook up material. But if you actually want a family, women look for husband material. This is because husband material means security, it means protection, it means love.

If you want an actually relationship, you aim to be husband material. If you want to end up in multiple insecure relationship, be hookup material.

It all depends on where you want to be at the end of the day. Happily married with a family? Or chasing girls and having multiple different ones.

If you are just "hookup material" as man, then sure you whould attract more women. But you have to consider a few things.

Women that have a high self respect, that search for something longterm, maybe are a bit more traditional about relationships, are more likely to want Husband Material.
Hookup Material is a guy that is exciting, that gives women the little spark they can't resist. It's for them much better then "Good Guys", boring guys that provide and care, but have no attractivity.
A guy that is Husband Material has the same Attractivity of a "Bad Boy"/Fuck Boy/Hookup Material, but also has the Commitment of the good guy.

= Therefore to be Husband Material is way better then being just Hookup Material

Hookup material means you are a dope.

I've only ever heard it used pejoratively, and only from women who are into casual to begin with.

It means you are good looking and/or fun for partying with, but don't provoke any deeper intrigue.

Unless I am completely out of touch with modern vernacular, "hookup material" is not a compliment.
